I found this thread from last year about Fender liners, https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/972010-Front-fender-liners?highlight=Fender+liners

- On my right side, the front half is gone and the left side is in bad shape. My question, does it matter if I use the oem felt material or purchase plastic liners for a B8 A4 or an A4 Sline?

Any material will work. Felt or plastic

I think even Audi dropped the nicer ones for cheap plastic for B8.5. They both get the job done, just a matter of how long it lasts.

I agree. I decided to go with this, https://www.ebay.com/itm/350805448407 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/185698783291?

I thought I might as well get both sides vice waiting for the other side to fall apart.

The plastic ones are more durable and better. The felt holds water and salt during the winter and acts like a scotchbrite pad on the fender leading to fender rust on the B8.

I have a 2001 A4 with original plastic liners. Fender liners falling apart was never an Audi issue until they started using the felt.

That's me!
I somehow go through liners every 6mos.
I just pull the cloth ones from the junkyard so they've kinda already lost their rigidness.

Let me know how those plastics work becaus I'm gonna try those next.

Wait. What?
They only last 6 months?

They might be lowered? I can see how rubbing would destroy the fabric ones pretty quickly. Otherwise at stock height in So Cal, they should last longer.

Oh, I'm sorry. I finally got them (from Taiwan). Deep sigh!

They are a hard bendable plastic, 4lbs each. All the holes lined up and I put it on both sides in about 90 mins.
The Workshop manual helped me out. I did not know there were two bolts over the output shafts that had to be removed to take off the remnants of the old liners. I can hear a bit more road noise now, but not enough to make any sort of difference to the joy of driving the car. One thing I forgot to order was the lower spoiler (if that's what it's called) for in front of the wheel.

- They did not come in two seperate pieces. Each fender liner front and back pieces were held together with plastic rivets at the top of the wheel well. Another thing, I did not like the new clips, so I reused most of the old ones. I do not thnk it's recomemded but the old ones has a more secure feeling to them.
