Hi All,

I have a 2013 B8.5 S4 which appears to have a Faulty Brake light switch. Everywhere I've looked the instructions discuss twisting the entire sensor counter clockwise (to remove) and clockwise (to install). When attempting to remove my old one, it refused to budge either way. Also, based on how it's designed, I don't see how it would twist either way. Most of the instructions I've seen are for older brake light switches which do not have the purple ring around it. I want to believe that it's the purple ring that needs to move clockwise or counter clockwise, not the entire sensor. Does anyone know if this is true. I'm attaching a pic of the sensor for reference. I've also read that you have one shot at getting this right or the sensor is garbage. I totally broke apart my old sensor to remove it, and replaced with a new one, but it doesn't appear to register anything. The old one used to function intermittently. Now I can't release the emergency brake because it doesn't know I'm pressing the brake pedal. Any thoughts on how this should be done would be great. I'm hopefully getting a new sensor today to try again.

UPDATE: I didn't hear back from anyone so I decided to go ahead with the process as I "think" it should be. As I guessed, you don't twist the entire sensor, but rather, just the purple ring. Once you push in the sensor into the mounting bracket, it clips in and can't be removed (kind of like a fish hook). Then you just put the cable on and twist the purple ring clockwise until it "clips" in place. You should hear the clip sound. Please make sure you don't play around with the sensor prior to installing. I messed my first one up by doing that. I was moving the ring back and forth and apparently, you have one shot to do this right.
