Hi,
My rear diff failed and started making a very loud whining noise. I got a replacement used rear differential with the same model/part numbers.
The used diff was installed and the sound is gone and the car seems to drive well but now I have "Sport Diff System Fault" coming up on the dash.
The VCDS code is as follows:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 22: AWD (J492) Labels: 8K0-907-163.clb
Part No SW: 8K0 907 163 B HW: 8K0 907 163 A
Component: 4 Wheel Drive H14 0100
Serial number: 001103140001136 Dataset Number: 8K0909104D 0025
ASAM Dataset: EV_AllWheelDiffeQSPCAN 003019
ROD: EV_AllWheelDiffeQSPCAN.rod
VCID: 2F3B1A386790F512F69-807A
1 Fault Found:
0258 - No Basic Setting
B2010 00 [10001001] - -
[Fingerprint invalid L2 DTC_MPT_FP_invalid]
MIL ON - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 5
Reset counter: 254
Mileage: 145976 km
Date: 2024.12.09
Time: 09:18:42
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The indy shop that installed the rear diff didn't want to try any coding for fear of bricking the car. The dealership wants $540, but will not guarantee success so I'm out $540 if they are unsuccessful. Another (more competent) indy shop an hour away wants $500 for the coding.
What are my options here? I'm quite technical, is there a way to DIY this? Or should I just suck it up and pay the dealer? Furthermore, is it safe to drive the car with this system fault (not that I have a choice).
