Pretty much title! I’m having trouble finding anything concrete in regards to my issue, it seems strange, but I had put my winter tires into my trunk (they didn’t fit well, trunk wouldn’t close properly like they were putting too much side pressure on the inside of the trunk) and after that I had a persistent rubbing sound as if my tires were rubbing on the inside of the wheel well. I had my winters installed last weekend and that rubbing sound got worse, fast forward to yesterday morning and now I have a clunking sound that is only audible when letting off the gas (no more rubbing sound), it goes away when accelerating or maintaining speed, or when I press the brakes, sound speeds up and becomes louder as I speed up, has nothing to do with which gear I’m in. Strangely enough, I went through the car wash today and it got at least twice as bad, yesterday it started happening around 40KM/h and now I can hear it down at about 15 KM/H. It sounds like something hitting the wheel well, doesn’t sound metallic at all. I have read it could potentially be the rear diff mounts, the shocks/mount bushing or potentially a wheel bearing.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Have you done any work to the car recently? How many km on car?

Could be not fully tightened brake caliper, sway bar link, shocks, or bad bushing(s).

The only things that have been done since I owned the car was the PCV at 165,000KM as well as downpipes and a tune, as well as the tire swap as mentioned. Currently sitting at 184K. I have it booked with a local euro specialist this Friday

At such high mileage I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re due for 4 corner shocks and mounts. Like others have said it could be worn control arms bushings which are only cheaper than new arms if you’re doing the labor yourself.
