Hi all,

I have a brake warning that comes on when I start my 2014 S4. I pulled out my VCDS and scanned for faults and got this:

The details for this error:

Why would I be getting an ABS brake alert for an intermittent Tire Pressure Warning?

I have aftermarket wheels and have for several years before this came up, although I did just have a wheel get repaired. I could take the wheels to Discount Tire, where bought my current set of tires, but prior to that, I'd like to understand why this results in a BRAKE alert.

Any thoughts?

The TPMS works off of the wheel speed sensor on each wheel and monitors the harmonic frequency of the wheels rotation. When the wheel falls below a certain psi or isn’t properly balanced it can cause the TPMS system to throw a code. Most likely thing is the tire needs to be rebalanced or the wheel speed sensor is faulty or the rim you had repaired isn’t perfectly round if it was bent.

Thanks for the technical details on how that works. The wheel was bent and is now straight, so it would be odd that this had a negative impact on this fault. I am going to bet that maybe my speed sensor needs to be replaced based on what you list above. The wheels was balanced when repaired and I've been closely monitoring the air pressure to make sure the repair is good.

I'll look at replacing that sensor to see if that fixes it.

Cheers!
