Iim curious to know if anybody has experience with stripping down and cleaning the FSI 2.0 bpg cam housing. Specifically looking for info on the housing filter, and possibly a check valve locatied somewhere inside the housing (not the n205 solenoid)

Im tracking down the culprit of multiple cam chain tensioner and adjuster control ring failures in a short period of time. Originally I figured it was just the plastic adjuster rings, but after cleaning out the housing I noticed not only was the 3 plastic adjuster rings destroyed, the screen hiding in the housing was also destroyed.

I have a spare screen, but looking under a jewelers loupe, I noticed many micro cracks in the plastic of the filter. Also, I'm not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me, but there appears to be part #s etched into all of the parts, but very faint, and very hard to decipher.

Why stop at the filter? My gut told me to stop, but my curiosities and determination forced me to go further. I removed the 2 t20? Bolts from the housing. 1 inside the housing, inline with the filter, and the other t20? On top of the housing.

The bolt on top of the housing appears to just be a block off plug with an oring. The bolt inside the housing appears to be holding a small check valve in place? The check valve was gunked up! At first I did not notice the check valve, but while carefully cleaning the housing, the valve fell into my tray.

After many many MANY hours of research, I cannot find anything relating to the filter, or the check valve.

I have a feeling it's 1 of those situations where Audi would just replace the whole housing, instead of a simple filter and check valve.

Attached are pictures of filter, check valve, amd t20? Bolts. Hoping that somebody has some sort of info on these items

What info are you looking for? How it goes back together? Or you looking for replacements(not available faik)?

Update: I found a filter for the BMW high pressure Vanos system. It appears to look identical to the B7 housing filter, other than its blue color. I'm not positive on the BMW dimensions, but I will find out shortly, supposed to arrive on Friday :)

BMW charges $15, but not in stock. FCP and ecs both have the filter for ~$8, as well as many other sites. BMW part # 11367834525

If this filter is the same as our B7s, I would highly recommend that people routinely change it while doing cam chain service, or anytime the housing is removed. That $8 filter could possibly save a lot of headache in the long run.

I will reeport back after recieving the filter.

As for the check valve, I think it is reffered to as a non-back flow valve? I will probably end up buying a new adjuster housing. I took a good look at my housing and have an idea of where it goes

All you got to do is pull it out and clean it..
And you need to know where those parts go?
