The 4kQ's are great cars!!!
thankfully, rust is not a problem. The 2.2L inline 5 engines are bullitproof and last well into the hundreds of thousands of miles with proper care. The only real weakpoints you'll need to look for are the CV boots and rubber bushings. These obviously wear out over time, so find out if they've been replaced as these problems can quickly ad up to $$$.
Other weak points are your usual VAG problems with doorlocks and windows not working as well as odometers failing. Finally, I believe the 86 quattros have hydraulic clutches which can be expensive to replace.
That car looks very well maintained by what I presume is an audi enthusiast, so I wouldn't worry as much.

What price are they asking (if you dont mind)? I am looking at a 4000 Q with 80k original miles, Master Tek maintained. $4500 but negot.

He's only asking $1,100. It's got 180k miles on it though. I have more pics I'll post up later.

4000q's where some of the best cars I've owned (yeah, I'm old enough to have had them new.) I've had two.
Be sure to check that the diff locks work. Do not switch them when you are rolling, and do not drive with them on unless you are on slippery stuff (center) or already stuck (both) The early diff locks (84, 85) were pneumatic, and had the most problems. The later ones we electromechanical, and had far less problems. I would go for an 86 or later car if I were in the market for one of these.
Chasing a diff lock problem can be time consuming and involve taking the whole interior out of the car. (Don't ask me how I know)
