View Full Version : Motor Mount Resistor

I’ve had some good luck and some bad the last few days. First off was a vibration issue that needed to be resolved. I went ahead and swapped those out with the 034 mounts, put on the bypass resistor so I wouldn’t get any codes. To give everyone a comparison the Vibration is barely above OEM.That was a great upgrade. Then I flashed it to Stage 2 and the TCU stage 1. JHM was great with this and we got everything flashed in no time.
No the bad luck drove it down the street a few blocks and parked it. I noticed a bit of smoke coming from the front and thought to myself . Hugh that’s odd, a few seconds later more smoke. Ok. now I gatta see what’s up. Popped the hood and had a small fire going. After scrambling and 5 bottles of water, I put the fire out and have it towed back home.
So what I found the motor mount resistor melted , caught fire and this is what started it. Damage was minimal but frustrating none the less.
So off to repair this mess, I cut off the melted sensor and exposed the wires. Made sure nothing else was melted together. Spliced in the new connector. Rewrapped the electrical with high heat black mesh tape and went to start the car.
Ahh hell , ESP light comes on, I run Vag and got a whole slew of errors. I’m hoping it’s just a fuse, I have a feeling something shorted out during that fire and either A. Popped a fuse or B. Blew a relay.
I haven’t heard of this motor mount resistor melting like this. I picked this up Black Forest.
You may wonder why I have 034 mounts and BF resistor. I originally was going to put the BF mounts in but the bottom stud on the mounts just spun. Both mounts were defective, thus I went to the 034 mounts.
Back to the problem, fuses on the driver side are fine. Now I’m about to crack open panel under the ECU.
I’m thinking of putting the OEM sensor back on and mounting it somewhere, or just not connecting anything to the new connection. Leave it empty , which will most likely throw a code. I don’t think I want to put in another resistor after this fiasco. And suggestions here ?

Thats strange.. First thing I would have done is contact 034, see what they have to say.

It wasn’t the 034 mounts , they dont come with sensor. It was the Black Forest resistor that caused this.
I thought about contacting BF, but I don’t think they will do anything about it.
The car starts, when it’s cold it takes two attempts has a rough idle then settles the normal idle, but it’s still in limp mode.

I'd still be contacting them and raising a bit of hell, if theyre resistors caught fire!

Ya I sent an email since there closed and attached pics and listed the damage that I know of . I doubt they will do anything.
But ya BF makes the resistors as well, I think JHM and 034 both make their own.

I'd double check on grounds, iirc those share the same grounding but I'd have to look at my diagrams. Maybe you pinched something when installing the mounts or didn't install the frame to block ground at the passenger mount?

Thank you for the schematics, it was a 15 amp fuse inside the ECU box. Popped in a new fuse , cleared the codes and I’m good to go.
The biggest PITA was the windshield
wiper arms , I tried every video trick I could find. Gave up and walked to Autozone to pick up a puller. Had both out in a minute.
Thanks for the tips guys .
