So I have a 2007 Audi a4. Currently stripping down the block to do rods and other stuff. But while it’s apart, I’m looking at turbos. I’m just wondering what yall would recommend to get close to 400hp? Idc if it’s a little shy of that, so far the only turbo I found was CTS turbo 1070x which is like a hybrid k04, or I was going to try and make the cts boss 500 turbo work, and I know it’s for the b8 platform, but it looks like it should work, or last choice would be the td05 from jhmotorsports. What yall think?
And before yall tell me to go mod another platform, I’m building this with my stepson, so please refrain from that lmao 🤣

Hybrid(k04x) is a good option for the 400 crank range. Theres also another one from Turbo Concepts, that seems promising.

Td05 is a decent option, just old technology, but its def a bump up from a k04.

Thanks for the reply, and never heard of turbo concepts, I’ll check em out!

Thanks for the reply, and never heard of turbo concepts, I’ll check em out!Theyve been around for about 30 years, with a pretty good reputation. They came out with their k04/hybrid a few years ago. If I didn't buy a CTS a few months before, I would have likely tried it.

Oh well I didn’t know that. Interesting. You think the CTS turbo boss 500 would work? I know they make ones for the b8s and one for ea113 motors. But no clue it either would work on this motor. lol

I would buy the JHM kit before a Boss kit, and I run a CTS k04 and FMIC, both been solid. Just too many horror stories about the Boss kits.

Thanks for the info on that! And yeah I had a jhm k04 but to be honest it felt like a dog lol. The tune they had wasn’t good. But motoza had it a lot better. But somewhere along the like I broke cylinder 4 piston, it was before I switched to motoza. So I’m just trying to plan my route on turbo choices. Also the jhmotorsports k04 was in the batch that came misadjusted. Seems like other k04s seem to spoil better.

EBay/ATP T3 2.0T manifold $495 and the disco potato GT2860 T3 .73 hot side $1068. Stronger spool then the k04, no lag, holds peak boost to 7200 rpm. Use a quality external watergate, locate BOV to cold side.

They all show fitment for transverse cars.
Seems he's looking for a "bolt-on" option.

I mean if there’s a better turbo than a k04 and I can use the cast manifold from jhmotorsports, or their stainless steel manifold lol. This is a slow project that I hope to have done by spring lol 😂
Also were did you get your billet valve
Cover? Does it retain the factory pcv system?

Yes, has PCV provisions. I did need to tweak it a little, bit nothing major. They said they'll make some adjustments on their next run, we'll see.

VSR now offers a 57/55 which is 3 mm difference to Borg warners EFR 7163 turbo. Being the design is slightly smaller and offered in a billet compressor the size difference should make up for the difference in turbine materials. This shud ultimately equal damn near the same boost curve to Borg warners turbo. Based on pricing and turbo manifold options (being the 1.8 manifold also should bolt to the 2.0T block) this can be done for less then k04 and have a significantly better power band and far better boost curve in comparison. And allows you to say you are an actual BT and not just a oem+.
That being as it is they offer a slightly smaller turbo that is 67 mm compressor that too likely will fell nearly the same as k04 but significantly better power all over. So being all the additional equipment needed to run the k04 u can run all the same equipment and get far better power curve by doing a bit more work. If that work is of no cost to owner I’d step right on past the k04 club and walk with the BT crowd. Very few and far between here. But only those who gone there actually know the difference.

I will be doing all my
Own work except tuning, but will the atp turbo manifold body up to the 2.0 with awd? Cause I see it only says it’s good for transverse mounted engine? Or I could buy the jhmotorsports cast manifold. Last question, could I just get a turbo with the waste gate built in, or is it better to do an external gate?
