Well the FI has 2 inlet vents which allow air in while the large center vent pulls the air out. But the truth is that most of the air is sucked into the engine bay from under the car.

Are you planning to pair it up with a CF trunk to complete the look/weight reduction?

Yes, just waiting for it to be finished. I was also going to do CF fenders but the price was higher then I wanted to spend.

just thinking, would there be any benifits from having the two air inlets on the sides like th FI hood and the outlet on the eurocode all in one hood? might look a little crazy if it was ever produced but i was just curious about the functionality of something like that.

What will be the retail price for the general public, (and for Audiziners [:D] ) be, and is the reverse hood scoop functional at reducing underhood temps?

i really like that hood. only question i have is about the vents and rain. im up here in washington and it rains a lot up here. i would definately switch hoods in winter, can the water damage anything? i know that in california you dont really have to worry about it.

Shouldn't hurt much since the opening is over the top of the engine. You could always make something that covers the vents from the inside during winter. I will take some pics of the engine side of the hood so everyone can see.

It is sitting a little more to the right then it did on the old parts, but with the vents in it shouldn't really show.

I got the hood as a sponsorship deal but it retails for $1649 because it is double sided CF, the single sided CF hood is $1247 and they have a basic version for $729.

Just waiting for a new cross over pipe(the pipe that runs between the rails and where the snub mount slides onto) and a new driverside tranny bracket arm. Once I fill in the sprayer holes I will send the parts over to be painted, still trying to figure out if I want the hood painted and if so which part of it will be painted.

I looked at that hood while I was there and asked dave if it can be done, I guess the problem is that the hood frame work on the inside of our hood would get in the way of putting the slits in that area which is why ours was put in the middle. I might ask dave to see if they could ever do a design like the GTR hood for a later addition to this hood, maybe even just do the vents on the outer side of the frame work so it runs down the part of the hood where it drops back down.

Is the frame CF? Doesn't really look like it. Maybe just bad pics

mike-2ptzero
10-17-2006, 01:03 PM
I think it is CF but just black resin over the top, I picked up 2 of these hoods up with both being double sided CF. The other one was for Dave at Eurocode so it had all clear resin on the bottom side so you could see the CF frame. Since it is a "double sided CF" that should mean it has a CF frame, the single sided CF hood might have a fiber glass frame since it is about $422 cheaper.

Looks good mike. Most vented hoods are borderline, although I cant say its 100% functional to justify it that one doesnt look bad. Do the fenders, You alreayd cut enough weight off the bumper ;)

Wheres your oil cooler located?

Well I was going to do the CF fenders, but price was a bit high and I had to order a driverside fender at the time. I might do them later down the road.

I dont have a oil cooler on my car since it is mainly used for drag racing. If I do add one I will just put it in the stock SMIC location.

Haven't had a chance to put it on a scale yet since it isn't finished enough to drive. Before the wreck it was around 3050-3100 without anyone in it and both front race seats. I will try to put it on a scale before and after I put the roll bar in.

onemoremile - Well I plan on painting most of the CF trunk and some of the CF hood.

high_octaneRS-4

You want a picture of the engine bay and hood open?

I will try to take some pics tomorrow after I put the FMIC back in since I took it out so I could put in the new cross over pipe in tonight.

Sometimes you have to be real specific about the wording "double cf" The reason I say this is because when I first ordered a hood from FI a while back, I asked for double cf hood, and got a cf hood with a cf frame. I recently ordered a newer hood with double cf, and got a hood with a fiberglass frame that was reinforced with with cf, and that's what they considered double cf.
