View Full Version : Allowing vendors to spam members via DM is tacky

I replied to a marketplace post and an unrelated forum vendor DM'd me that they sold the same wheels (quoted, below)

Is this behavior condoned by the forum? It's pretty tacky on a few levels:

1) The vendor is trying to steal a sale from the member that posted their item in the classifieds.
2) The vendor is incapable of meeting or beating the price of used items, making this cold call rather pointless.

In 25+ years of participating in and running enthusiast communities, literally the only other people I've seen slide into DMs/email like this are scammers. Not exactly the crowd I'd want my legitimate business modeling behavior from. The net result is a bad impression of both the vendor for wasting my time and limited DM space, and the forum for allowing this behavior.

We wouldn't say it's "condoned" but not really against the rules either. Never thought it needed to be in the rules in the first place, to be honest.

Suppose you could reply to them with your feelings as stated in this thread...if you haven't already.
