One of the cats went out on my 2012 A7 3.0T and I'm looking to replace them with Can Auto Performance Test Pipes. After looking through some exhaust setups to control the rasp and drone, I also plan on going with these Magnaflow parts: Magnaflow resonated X-Pipe 125680, Magnaflow resonated X-Pipe 11386, and Magnaflow 2.5" 11226 mufflers. Should I also replace the stock downpipes while I'm at it and go with the CAP non-resonated DP and test pipe combo? Or will this be too raspy? CAP also has some resonated DPs for the B8/B8.5, I'm waiting to hear back if this will fit in the C7. I also thought about installing the MagnaFlow 10416 resonators somewhere on the downpipes but I'm not sure if this is possible yet. So, my options are: keeping stock DPs, installing CAP DPs, or installing CAP DPs with either their resonators or Magnaflow resonators - along with the rest of the Magnaflow exhaust setup. Any thoughts?

The best my decatted 3.0t car sounded was with this combo.

CAN Test pipes JHM Catted downpipes, stock exhaust.

However, I did feel in the butt dyno the power reduction switching to that from the AWE exhaust. The AWE exhaust sounded freaking awesome, but it was loud. It was also a little droney, but I think the cat delete rendered the J pipes they have in their mufflers pretty inert. You might try an OE S6 exhaust in conjunction with some resonated downpipes.

Here is my decatted exhaust saga.

Change of plans, the shop got back to me and the price of doing a full custom exhaust was out of my budget. I'm thinking of doing test pipes to a catted downpipe, then addressing the rasp/drone afterwards if necessary with vibrant resonators or putting in a catback exhaust from Magnaflow or AWE. I understand you previously had a similar setup with the AWE system, from your experience do you think I'd be better off just putting in the ultra-quiet resonators or putting in a catback system? I'll probably just do the test pipe and catted downpipe first with the rest being stock and see how loud that is, but I'm fairly sure I'll want to quiet it down afterwards.

If you're doing the awe exhaust with your car decatted, I'd get 2.5 inch downpipes that match in size and weld in some mini cats and the ultra quiet resonators.
