This is my first post.
Just got bought a 2019 Q5 premium a little over a month ago.
I am having trouble releasing the parking brake and over the weekend I was unable to release the parking brake at all or move the car.
As the car is new to me not sure if I really had a system of releasing the parking brake. While this is my first car with an electronic parking brake I have driven rental cars and some have their parking brake quirks. But I believe I was trying to release the brake first then put the car in gear.
The parking brake switch only toggles up which appears to activate the brake but not down which disengages. I believe the switch is supposed to move both up and down.
And since the switch did not move down, at all, I would then pull up. Essentially continuing to activate the brake, as I see now
The work-around is the car will automatically release the parking brake if the car is placed in gear AND the seat belt is worn. Over the weekend I was trying every combination, even rocking the car back and forth and nothing happened except I was not wearing the seat belt.
Today I put on the seat belt and the the parking brake released when the car was put into gear.
I still believe the switch on the center console needs to be replaced but want to see what others think.
And is replacing the switch just involve removing the top panel on the center console?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for any help you can provide. The switch is supposed to move up and down, and down releases the park brake. So, you either have a faulty switch or something is under it blocking movement. Check YouTube for videos that describe console disassembly.
