I was just washing the car and noticed 1 exhaust flap open and 1 flap closed

I tried started switching from comfort to dynamic and I see no change?
I going to lower exhaust and pull out the motors how can I test functionality? can I just apply 12volts?

I put on new exhaust a few weeks ago, and getting them into sync was such a nightmare that I couldn't even explain my process. However, in your case, it seems more likely that one of them failed. Whichever doesn't change when you mode shift, probably.

do they have a high failure rate?

More of them getting stuck, try some spray penetrating oil on the pivot points.

You can always go with an Aftermarket exhaust, and program the valves to open and close when you want :)

do they have a high failure rate? While I'm sure they fail, it's not something I can recall people commonly having issues with.

I guess it's good you were able to figure it out conclusively. I agree, though. The price is way more than I would have expected.

I got my hands on a pair of used flap actuator motors but when I recived then I relave the part number are different

mine are 4H0 133 246
new part are 8R0 133 246

they look identical

does anyone know if these will work?

Three screws and a plug, one way to find out. I imagine it will work just fine.

Why would you need a pigtail? If they are the same, they should plug right in.

8R0 is a Q5 series part. It may work, but if plug is different, why not just get the correct fitting part?

Also, to aide your troubleshooting, the exhaust valves are opened by a coil spring, closed by a motor.

Yeah, that'll do it. No salt here.
