View Full Version : Should I get a Wagner intercooler or not?

Hi, my car is an A6 C7 Allroad 320hp and planning a stage1 after current timing chain and reconditioning of the turbos+injectors and some other little things like oil coolant changed.

Now I have read a minimum of 8 hours of forums and theories and I'm still not sure if a Wagner intercooler would do more 'damage' (turbo lag) or it will actually help for my future stage1. I will never put my car on the tracks or so, just daily use around town and maybe smoke someone if they ask for it :)))

Can anyone clarify this? I assume a tuner would know if there are parameters that can be changed so that the intercooler will be adapted and so on.

The alternative would be to just clean my current OEM intercooler.

Any potential lag you'd introduce with this would be minimal and you would never notice if you looked. Wagner may even show a reduction in lag. In maintaining the stock turbos and piping, there should be less restriction and, more importantly, more volume to cool the charge air, resulting in less heat soak and reduced IATs.

While the ECU won't know the IC has been changed, it will know the effects on IAT and charge pressure. And thus you should be able to run harder/longer at a given ambient temperature before heat soak becomes an issue and the ECU adapts to that.
