WTF, if you mean the actual metal of the shock tower- I wouldn't buy that car. I don't think it can be repaired at least not properly. Sounds like that car has been jumped Dukes of Hazzard steez. Stay away.

hahha yea you would have to be doing some serious driving to bend a shock, that shit is strong

what happened was the car was driven through a field to avoid a deer and the front bumper was kind or flipped under the car and it broke the rad and rad support i was told it was slightly bent only. but i can get the car for a really good deal. what do you guys think.

yeah you can get it for a really good deal but what about fixing/replacing the radiator and support as well as the shock tower? how does it drive? i'm sure the alignment is off now. how do you know nothing else has been bent along with the shock tower such as the sub-frame? don't bother with it. i wouldn't risk buying a b5 a4 with work needed to be done to it seeing that the price of b5's are extremely cheap nowadays.

No, pictures are the worst thing you can do. We'd much rather analyze the situation by your verbal description...[rolleyes]

Seriously though, what do you plan on doing with the car? If you can get it for $1K, I'd say go for it. You could probably part it out for more than that...

Is it the top of the shock tower or the part that you can see in the wheel well? Also need to check to see if the frame rail has moved at all since that will throw off the sub frame, bumper shocks and alignment.

i still need to go and see the car in person.

mike, where can i see the frame rail?and how can i tell if it has moved?

Audiworld doesn't allow links to pics from their site.

You might have to get under the car to see if the rail is bent at all, you also want to check where the bumper shocks and rad support bolt to the end of the rail. If they are all lined up then the rail is fine.

Its not worth the headache, especially on a 2.8L late model B5

TQMB5
10-16-2006, 01:07 PM
yea not worth it, i bet the subframe is bent if th shock bent, they are very strong

b5pusher

what about if i could get the car for more like $1000 instead of $2000. then if it came down to it, i could part it out to get the intial investment back?

ps. by the way i should i have metioned this already its a 99 quattro 5-spd. it has 140k miles on it, and its the original owner.

the car would never drive properly again without the purchase of some fairly expensive parts and collision repair....i'd just find another great deal....

lextan euro auto on myspace.com has a 03 A6 with 24k miles for $17k....thats a f'in deal....

Looks like the bumper shocks are either bent or the flange/rail area is bent causing the bumper shocks to face upward.

^this is true but when u cant always perfectly fix a car. your alignment will always be off and the car will never be true ever again. it really doesnt look like that much damage but who wants to buy a beat audi?

TQMB5
10-18-2006, 07:41 PM
and you are all losing sight that this is like a 96 0r 97 2.8... definatly not worth it

i want to put a new motor in the car so either way its goin to be a project, but if the alignment will always be off then idono about that.

would a body shop be able to tell me if the car will be able to be perfectly fixed back to normal without an alighment issue?

do you guys think its a better idea to look for an a4 with a blown motor to put a new motor in than this but one with a blown motor is hard to find and also more than $1000?

badassbaldie

It's funny how people on here spend $800-1000 on a FMIC or coilovers but the same people think it's the end of the world if someone wants to buy a wrecked A4.

B5pusher, take a chance and buy the thing. What's the worst thing that could happen, you're out $1000? And I seriously doubt you'll be out any money because you can make that back by parting it out.
