View Full Version : Possesed Sunroof?

10-13-2006, 12:58 PM
Its been happening every once and a while where I'm driving along and my sunroof opens up partially for a minute or so and then goes back. It'll do this for a while then stop.

It happens most commonly when I have the sunroof open, then I shut it after a while of driving. Then it'll go nuts open, close, open, close for ever.

Loose wiring or what?

When it slides back (I'd say about 5-6" or so) I can put the knob thing to the position where the sunroof should tilt the back up half way, and It will close to the fully close position.

It's crazy. All my friends are scared of my car lol.

There's a write-up on AW. You basically just fix the connection.

Sweet, I'll look it up thanks.

Edit* couldn't find it on AW, all I found was sunroof leaking problems.

It doesnt work for 01 A4's and up already tried... Its a different procedure.... The part where you try to open up the little contact point is different..

just take the sunroof switch apart and clean the metal contacts with alcohol...

ooohhh...sh!t...so i am not crazy. i thought i was on crack or something...lol
but yeah, what mine does is that it tilts up and closes again whenever the foock wants to, it has a mind of its own.

better then mine it goes all the way back and then get stuck. then it thinks it is in the closed position while its all the way back, so I have to take the headliner off and unbolt the sunroof and frame to put it back into place.

Like he said, clean the connections with alcohol. You'll see when you open the thing up, but there's a metal surface that connects the two pieces, the person who did the writeup even pulled one of the connections out a little bit so it'll contact a little harder. That makes no sense to me, no other idea how to word it though, haha.

hey, if my sunroof knob in my '01 is "stripping" sometimes, where you turn it and it won't do anything, this would prolly fix that huh?

right, but i bet if i take it off there may be something similar. i can kind of tell from the picture how it works. it hasn't given me that much trouble lately and going in to the winter i probably wont' be using it that much so... oh well.

Damn that little blue harness for the switch itself is a MOTHER to take off. I got the one for the lights off. It was really hard to take off. I thought it broke once it finally came off. I'm still struggling with the blue one. Is there any little tab or something that releases the clip?

I'm thinking of using plyers but I don't want to break the plastic on the clip.

Any tips?

Also to take off the bottom of the swith. What does he mean by "pry".

*EDIT* I got the blue clip off with a pair of needlenose plyers. Very gently for fear of snapping something off. Also to get the bottom of the switch I just used an optometry scredriver (the teeny flathead one) and stuck it in between the two and pryed.

Hopefully this works!
