View Full Version : Odd wear on brake pads with Macan calipers

I have about a thousand miles on Macan calipers with the tiny dust shields and the Macan cooling ducts. My oil cooler ruptured and contaminated the driver side pads so I bought a new set of Dynamic Friction track pads and installed them on both sides.

The inboard pads are partially disintegrating at the trailing edge. It looks like dust is being g directed into the pads, which have a tapered trailing edge and are trapping the debris between the pad and rotor.

The bottom pads are the inboards. The bottom right is the pad that got contaminated. Thoughts? I am thinking about leaving the Macan ducts off but not reverting to the factory dust shield and seeing g what happens. I track the car so I do t want to compromise cooling too much with the stock shields.

What pads. I’ve come to the realization that if you’re hard on the brakes, OEM pads for Q5 or whatever else fits in the Macans isn’t the best choice. I’m changing mine to IS2000 pads on the next change.

Those are Dynamic Friction pads. I’ve been using them on multiple vehicles with good results, this issue notwithstanding.

Are you running the "track use" version of those pads? They are awfully cheap, my guess is just a low quality pad.

Those might just be bullshit pads. Never heard of them. Pagid are usually good. I’ve got a set of Textar on mine now and while they were fine with stock calipers, the Macan ones seem to be putting too much wear and tear on them. This is why I’m switching to Neuspeed pads on the next swap. Current setup is hotspotting the rotors and causing other issues when braking.

Defective pads.
