On a B6 sub forum there is a thread labeled "questions you thought were too dumb to ask." Could not find one on the A5 sub forum and well I have a dumb question I did not know where to post it. [rolleyes]
On a MMI3G plus when adjusting the air flow speed, what is the little white indicator indicating?

Probably the Auto computed position. If you turn your selection back to there, the Auto light probably comes back on.

Can confirm, I've got a B8 S5.

This selection indicates the "auto" position. The fans will operate as the vehicle sees fit.

I've noticed in the cold mornings when set to a warm temperature, the automatic fan settings keeps the fans low as to not blow freezing air inside the cabin.

As operating temperatures rise, the fans ramp up slowly until it's pumping out the desired heat.

Once the desired cabin temperatures have been reached, the fans ramp down until cabin temperature drops below a threshold.

Pretty cool feature and honestly I'm pleasantly surprised how well it works.

Needless to say, if you have the temperature set to super high, the fans will keep pumping out hot air since cabin temps don't ever each 40-C (104-F) unless they do... Never has in my experience LOL

Thank you. You are correct. If you move the fan speed to the white arrow, it even says auto under the arrow. Well that certainly was a dumb question. [:d]

Nah it's not a dumb question. I wondered what that was myself when I got in mine for the first time haha.

Took a bit of time to trust it but it's really neat! Haven't tuned the fan speed ever since lol.

Enjoy:)
