SOLD!!!

Selling my RHD Audi S2 Avant. Only 1800 S2 Avants were made made worldwide - actually rarer than the RS2 which was based on this car. With a 5-cylinder turbocharged engine, Quattro, and a 6-speed manual, this car is a riot to drive and sounds great too. Imported properly from the UK, clean GA title.

$28,000. You will not find another in this spec in the states, and there are only 8-10 S2 Avants in America at all.

Trades considered for interesting cars with significant cash ($15-20k) on top. Only reason for sale is that I bought back my old UrS6 avant in need of a full restoration and it doesn't make sense to have two 5-cylinder wagons at the same time, as fun as that is!

General info:
- VIN: WAUZZZ8CZTA000549
- Rare Ruby Red paint. Almost purple in the shade.
- 226k miles. These engines are known to last 500k +. The head was rebuilt at 218k.
- Thick binder with all service records since new.
- European OEM Recaro seats. Essentially RS2 seats but these were from a special order Audi Cabriolet.
- RS2 rear heckblende. Note that I put the license plate in the rear window, but I will include another taillight setup so you can run a license plate in the normal location.
- rare 18" Euro D2 S8 Avus wheels
- 3” downpipe and exhaust
- 280bhp chipped ECU
- H&R coilovers
- Kamei grille

Recent maintenance:
-steering rack, coilovers, alignment, PCV, strut mounts, tie rods, end links, timing belt/water pump, thermostat, much more. Head was rebuilt 8k miles ago with receipts, new head gasket, valve job etc.

This car is in great shape but has some quirks:

- AC was removed in the UK, new compressor comes w/car
- Turn signals don’t self-cancel
- some surface corrosion on subframes
- sunroof liner wrinkled
- door panel leather starting to separate
- very minor bubbling in paint on left rear fender
- tach sometimes reads a little high

Feel free to reach out with questions. This is a great example of a rare and special car that is also surprisingly practical.

Love this! Around 4 years ago there was a LHD S2 Avant in this color for sale in Germany. It was around the same price. I wanted it so bad! I like this look better than the RS2 TBH. Perfect color and specs

Best of luck with the sale!

Thanks a lot! I do love the RS2 but I would say these are a lot better value, plus I like the S2 front end better. Had a lot of interest but still available.

Ugh, that's so nice. But since I live in Kalifornia I don't think this is going to pass CARB certification...

Not super familiar with California smog but no CELs and the car does have a cat...

How Did The S2 differ from the RS2 ? less rare?

Put simply, the difference between S2 and RS2 is similar to the difference between any S_ and RS_ of a given generation. The engine, brakes, and suspension of the RS receive a bump in the performance category; the bumper, exterior mirrors, and badges are different, and the interior is a bit nicer in some very subtle ways, usually including a different gauge cluster, different belt line trim, and sometimes different seating materials. As was typical for Audi in the past, the RS model was only available as an Avant, while the S2 was available as a 2-door hatch (most common), 4-door sedan (least common), and 4-door Avant. The RS2 is technically more rare than the S2 if you add up all three body styles the S2 was offered in; but as OP noted, the S2 Avant is actually more rare than the RS2 since only 1800 were made (the S2 sedan is much rarer still, with a total production number of just 306!).

More specifically:
- the S2 came with a 2.2L 20V Turbocharged Inline Five-Cylinder identified by engine code 'ABY' that was rated at 227HP @5,900 RPM and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1,950 RPM (same rated output as the AAN found in C4-generation S cars).
- the RS2 came with a 2.2L 20V Turbocharged Inline Five-Cylinder identified by engine code 'ADU' that was rated at 311HP @6,500 RPM and 302 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 RPM
The main difference between the engines is the turbocharger, tune, and fuel injectors, but I believe the RS2 has higher lift cams as well. The RS2's engine was developed in conjunction with Porsche, and the intake manifold displays their wordmark.

I appreciate the improved performance of the RS2 over that of the S2; but I genuinely feel the bumper and mirror treatment the RS2 received are downright garish, and comically mismatched to the design language of the rest of the body.
The S2, meanwhile, has a relatively handsome, sporty-looking bumper design that actually compliments the rest of the vehicle.

(I actually feel the same way about the aesthetic design of the B5 S4 vs RS4; but there seems to be many more people that agree with this opinion on the S2/RS2.)

Couldn't have said it better myself! Bump.
