Hey everyone,
Firstly, please bare with me, I know a decent amount about these cars, but I am no mechanic haha.
I'm haver a rather bizarre issue with my S6 at the moment. I am hearing a weird grinding noise right at about 1800 RPMs. I tried to diagnose it myself for a while but was unable to. So I took it to my indy German shop to have it diagnosed. Essentially there is an issue with one of the valves in the mufflers, where it is rubbing/grinding. This isn't causing any "harm" to the car, but it sure doesn't sound good. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/sdXZS5mn6WI
I'm curious as to what my options are here. The shop offered to weld the valve open, which is what they do on BMWs a lot to solve similar issues. But with how they explained it, BMWs have vacuum actuators, where as the S6's have electronic actuators. Therefore they were concerned of a potential CEL or DTC, so I wanted to do a bit more research into this before I had that done. I've also been thinking about the possibility of coding out the DTC? I live in an area that requires yearly emissions testing, so I can't have a permanent check engine light.
I know I can get a new muffler from Audi, but I seriously don't even want to look at how much they cost. I can also get a cat back or maybe the ECS axle back, but that's still a ton of money that I'd prefer not to spend. I also thought about cutting the mufflers off and straight piping that section, but it would be so insanely loud, and I would run into the same DTC issue potentially?
I bought this car 5 months ago, and 2 weeks later a turbo blew, along with a cat and a few other things, so I have already poured more money into this car than I had planned. Any suggestions or ideas would be awesome, thanks!
