End User Flashing Kit Compatibility & Flashing Kit Upgrade Program

https://i.imgur.com/pPbHVBa.png
034Motorsport software engineers have been preparing for the release of 034SPI for years, and have worked to integrate wireless connectivity features to the End User Flashing Kits even prior to the release of the app. However, at that time, the internal chipset of the flashing kits was produced by a 3rd party to their specifications.

During the development of the application, it became clear that the outdated technology within the older 3rd party chipsets was not going to be sufficient for safe and stable wireless flashing, so 034Motorsport software and hardware engineers developed and produced a bespoke Dongle using the latest and greatest chipsets available to ensure a fast and stable connection between mobile devices and the Dongle during flashing, datalogging, and general use of the application.

The new generation of Dynamic+ Flashing Kits was rolled out in May of 2023, and can be identified by its USB-C plug and flush-mounted indicator lights (see image above). Thousands of these kits have already been sold, and are compatible with 034SPI. If you have the new version of the flashing kit, you are ready to use the app!

If you have the older generation of Dynamic+ Flashing Kit (with the raised indicator light and USB-B connector), you will need to purchase the new generation of flashing kit to utilize 034SPI. THE OLDER GENERATION FLASHING KIT WILL STILL WORK FOR THE WINDOWS PC-BASED FLASHING CLIENT.

End User Flashing Kit Upgrade Discount

If you own the older generation of Dynamic+ Flashing Kit and would like to upgrade to the new generation to use 034SPI, we are offering a significant discount. Please email [email protected] with a receipt/proof of purchase of the old generation flashing kit to receive a discounted quote of $89 for a new generation Dynamic+ Flashing Kit. Note: supplies are temporarily limited, so fulfillment of a discounted upgrade order may be delayed until early December, pending inventory.

What makes Dynamic+ Tuning Different?

While many tuners can achieve great power figures that look impressive on a dyno sheet or a webpage, the key to a truly substantive and transformative software upgrade lies in the strategies employed to make power efficiently and safely. 034Motorsport Dynamic+ Software strives to retain as many OEM safety protocols as possible, and holistically recalibrate the entirety of the ECU and TCU to create what we call the Dynamic+ experience.

034Motorsport engineers develop special in-house tools that allow us to access the firmware and maps inside the factory ECU. This level of engineering is required to prevent workarounds and bandaids that many aftermarket companies resort to. 034Motorsport optimizes the ECU calibrations just like Audi engineers would, accessing the source of how the ECU controls the engine and making changes at the base level.

This is the ONLY way 034Motorsport can ensure our calibrations meet our industry-leading standards for delivering ultimate power with unrivaled drivability, uncompromised reliability, and enhanced features and functionality beyond what is provided in the factory calibration.

Looks great and would love that data logging access on my phone…minus buying another cable/dongle, even at $89.

I agree. I purchased the 034 suite a year or so back and haven't had a chance to upload it. My cable is currently still in original packaging. 😆

Ouch. Seems everyone has the same sentiment in every one of these threads 034 started yesterday from what I’ve seen, some way more upset with the prior promises of the old dongles working for the mobile app. I’m not looking to log constantly, so maybe this isn’t for me and keeping a cheap $100 or less tablet is just as easy minus the cable management while driving.

What blows in my opinion is that we’re looked at basically as an inside sales opportunity and I think that’s honestly by design to limit use of the new app in its first iteration(s) until their production of new dongle can catch up and more likely until they release all of the feature sets for all cars. Just would be nice to use a 1TB phone I use daily to keep all this stuff in one place and for the product release promises to be met. Oh well, not much new to see here and a very vendory way of handling the situation…”oh just sell them another ‘proprietary’ cable they can’t do anything else with later on” even when half of them have the same cable (under the hood) from another tuner that we poached from some sale or going out of business suddenly.

Again, the app looks great and the features would be nice to have but I don’t need or want another dongle and my god if it needs to stay plugged in all the time to work, at least make it a little slimmer.

Someone has to make a usb B Bluetooth receiver - whether or not it could be powered by the old dongle or transmit data remains to be seen though.

We were 100% truthful any time we stated that we planned to support older dongles. You can watch past live streams where we constantly spoke that we were working to support older dongles, but unfortunately it got to the point where the flashing stability and safety was not adequate enough to use the old dongle with 034SPI, so we had to limit support to the new generation hardware. This call was made just 1 month ago after all reasonable avenues of development were exhausted to try and make the old-gen dongles stable enough.

We understand this is disappointing, and yes, we said we would make it happen, and that's on us for setting an expectation that we could not meet, but there is no way we would instead take the other route of providing an unstable and unsafe connection that could lead to ECUs being bricked in vulnerable situations just to try and preserve the use of a very outdated piece of technology. THAT is not the 034 way. We will put quality above all else with the products we provide and stand behind that.

We have a discount program that has us selling these new R4 dongles at a lower price than they cost us to build in an effort to help support our long-term customers to get the latest hardware for our newest developments, but we will not compromise on the quality/safety of the product we provide.

Any chance to get the updated “live feed” gauges and dials to display using the old dongle and a PC? Not asking for anything wireless just would be cool to be able to monitor the engine in real time.

They answer this question in another feed. (ETA: didn’t realize you asked the question elsewhere, my bad)

The 034Motorsport Datalogging program is designed to be used by our calibration team to review logs. It is not designed for end users to review logs at this time, as it is a black hole of information. You cannot properly review logs if you do not have calibration experience, let alone calibration experience on the MG1 ECU.

Thank you for the same canned response as was provided in the other threads; we might as well consolidate them all at this point. I understand product and software limitations as well as the fact that blockers can arise at the last minute being a product manager for a SaaS platform. That being said, I guess we find the appropriate ‘fix’ for existing customers when publicly stated delivery requirements go undelivered to be considerably different. Yes, I read the safety and below your cost line (not saying I agree) for existing customers upgrading, but $89+ tax isn’t the same as your existing, owned hardware works as we said would.

Plan B should have always been developing the logging platform you want to mention but then go on to say we shouldn’t really use because we don’t understand.

The old dongles are not "no good" anymore with the release of the app. The app is an optional feature that is available to those who wish to purchase the latest R4 flashing cable.

The older R3 flashing kits are still perfect for flashing and logging from a Windows 10/11 based computer! These will continue to be supported for use in this application into the future, and are as good as they were yesterday.

-Sean@034

ETA: Plan C could be a USB B Bluetooth receiver or even just connectivity to this new app via USB C/lighting ports.

I really don’t even care about the wireless flashing. I just would like the at groovy interface for logging.

I’m not any type of engineer but I gotta imagine whatever software is translating the “raw” data logging parameters into the easy to use and read display would easily port over to Windows - you don’t have to worry about bricking anything so that connectivity reliability is a non issue.

Doesn’t seem like a heavy lift. But then again what do I know.

IOS logging so I can easily upload and view, when the e85 stations crap out every now and I can flash fuel tunes to get to work without needing a hotspot/wifi. Worth it. The cost of staying relevant is what it is.

Any thoughts on considering expanding the device to compete with the abilities fo OBD11? I see that you can check readiness and DTCs. Now if you guys add service reminder resets and brake piston retractions and other stuff that's more bare minimum maintenance and not too in depth like coding for the type of device it is, that might make things a lot more compelling!

We have some features already like fuel tank drain, throttle body adaptation, evap adaptation, etc, but those are primarily performance based tools to compliment the tuning software. The aim is not to replace diagnostic-focused tools like OBD11/VCDS at this time, but as time progresses we'll continue to evaluate what can be added.
