Hi All, I have a 2012 A4 Wagon which has been imported from Japan. The working frequency range is lower than broadcast here. Apparently, there is a band expander installed, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. And the previous owner has some stored music in the jukebox with Japanese symbols. I have no idea what they are. Is it possible to reflash the radio to change the tuning frequency and update options?

I have also tried using a Bluetooth transmitter without success and kind of wondering if the aerial is even plugged in. Audio from the transmitter is never quite tuned in and is overpowered by other broadcast and a lot of static. I think there is a Japanese based TV system installed though everything appears stock. I'm really not sure where to start.

Thanks everyone.

You refer to radio, so this is a Concert or Symphony unit? More likely, you just need to go in and set the country/region bits in the coding or adaptations.

This coding might relate: https://www.audiforum.us/threads/how-to-convert-audi-radio-from-us-to-eu.14540/

But another search hit talks about needing to "reflash" the firmware set in the unit: https://mhhauto.com/Thread-audi-a4-2010-change-radio-frequency-from-USA-to-EU--194922

Absolute magic, thanks Smac770. After learning a bit more, I can see how my question is vague. Still figuring out exactly what I have. All controlled with MMI, has a CD player with SD slots, and a 6-disk stacker in the glovebox. For a 2012 car to have the ability to rip CDs and includes 10Gb storage blows my mind.

I'm now searching for "FM radio update to NZ" and getting results. We import a lot of cars from Japan since we're also a right-hand drive country. Service places out of my area look to charge $100NZD ($60USD). I can also get all of the maps updated for another $400NZD ($240USD). I think I'll skip the maps, that's a lot of money for something I wouldn't use that much, and still wouldn't have Apple car play or similar. So now looking for a local dealer, and how I can add the ability to stream music from my phone while maintaining full MMI control/functionality. Any advice on the last bit would be appreciated.

Thank you Smac770.

Ok, so the unit above the climate controls says "Audi multimedia" on it? That would be MMI 3G. The 6-disc changer in the glove box would be a rare option for an A4, but it is a Japan spec vehicle, so maybe that was a thing there. Would expect it more on something like an A6. 10GB jukebox, yeah, definitely MMI 3G High.

So the radio unit for MMI 3G is in the left rear of the cargo hold. Pull the cover panel and you'll see the radio, and maybe an amp (if B&O sound system).

From what I find in the quick looking is the FM tuning steps are hard programmed into the dataset loaded into the radio unit. That would require VCP tool and the correct dataset file to load into the radio unit to change.

Yeah, for CarPlay and such, people retrofit all kinds of Android based hideaway or replacement screen (e.g. RSNAV) devices. But none of those would be relevant to the FM tuning aspect.

Unfortunately, they added Bluetooth audio streaming with the facelift (B8.5), where MMI 3G Plus replaced MMI 3G High. For the B8.0 vehicles, the answer is a Bluetooth AMI dongle, like Bovee Tune2Air / Invery Airdual / CHOOCL, etc. Or some Carplay retrofit device, where you'll connect to it.
