Hello. Got a crack from a rock chip last Sunday which immediately expanded to A pillar and extended on the other side of the crack to about 8 inches total. Dont think this can be repaired. Have $1K deductible and Safelite quoted $close to $500. They could not verify if OEM item will be used. If anyone has experience could you please help comment on this and what is the best way to move forward. we have local shops in Alpharetta, GA as well. Not sure if to go to body shop. Thoughts are welcome? Thank you in advance.

I had satellite replaced my windshield it was a little cheaper but the heads up display was blurry on the glass.

My insurance company paid to get OEM windshield which was $2k out the door with camera alignments.

Safelite used non-OEM glass when replacing glass on my Palasade and similar to what has been said already, the HUD was extremely blurry- almost headache inducing trying to read it.
Next day I requested OEM glass due to the HUD and it was done, no questions asked and no extra charge.

Granted this was done through insurance and not out of pocket.

I replaced two windshields in my RS7, so I'm sadly all too familiar with the process.

If you have HUD, you want OEM glass for the above mentioned reasons. Most insurance companies offer a rider where you pay a premium for OEM-only replacement items. If you don't have it already, get it, mine isn't much.

If you have high beam assist, the camera will need recalibrating. Some insurers will pay this from the get-go, depending on how your dealer or shop handles it. I had both windshields replaced at Audi, so they bring in an outside company for the recal. I had to pay them separately, then submit that recal claim back to insurance and get reimbursed.

Only really need OEM or at least the OEM actual vendor if you have the fancy accessories like HUD or possibly ACC. Rain sensor will work perfectly fine with non OEM glass.

On my C7 S6, the windshield company said they absolutely wouldn't use aftermarket glass on my car because of the HUD. Oem was like 2000 for just the glass.

Thanks all. No HBA or HUD but still will ask for OEM. Thanks all again.
