Lately been noticing some weird behavior with the trans after cars been sitting at work all day with super light throttle inputs going home, like it’s looking for shift points. Once on the highway and pedal mashed down it shifts crisp and pulls to redline. Zero issues there. I got the car at 38k and I doubt the ATF has ever been changed.

Zero codes pulled through OBDELEVEN.

Try resetting the fuzzy logic by disconnecting the battery for a day and see if that helps.

ATF drain and fill may help.

Does it feel like it takes a while to grab? When I pull away from the driveway, drive away from a parking spot, or break to a rolling stop, itll hesistate to shift then aggressively tug for a quarter second. Itll mainly happen when engine is cold, but have had that randomly happen.

Never found out what it was, but been doing it for 40k miles. Hard to replicate it, and just never able to figure it out.

I would change the trans fluid. I have an appointment coming up for my A7 TDI, it has 90k miles and the last time I was at the dealer they wouldn't change it because they said there is no service interval for it because it's a quattro, which makes no sense to me. Lexus said the same thing then they changed it to every 60-80k miles. Transmission has gears and it has fluid to lubricate the gears and clutches. Not changing the fluid makes no sense to me!

Audi says it’s lifetime fluid but ZF the manufacturer says every 70 thousand miles. So I’m going with the manufacturer of the transmission says.

We bought our 3.0 at 142K miles and the trans fluid had never been changed. Previous owner drank the Audi koolaide about fluid for life. It was running perfectly fine with clean shifts as well. Everything I have read says not to change at that mileage so I have not changed it. Now at 229,000 miles it’s still on the original fluid. I am deathly afraid to change it now.

For the OP, you are kinda stuck with HAVING to change the fluid but understand that you may not be fixing your trans but rather nailing another nail in its coffin. Don’t change and it will likely die, DO change and you might speed up the demise by flushing all the shit trapped in it. I am inclined to tell you to be prepared to do a second change in a few months. You are not doing a full replacement with a filter along with a dump and fill. The flushed funk will mix quickly with new oil. A second change would help get rid of all that old shit. Just hope you don’t flush out the clutches too quickly.

Not that scares me lol. I’ll keep an eye on this and put it off as long as I can.

This is a single data point. I am not saying I am right but this was my experience.

2014 A6 TDI.

I am the original owner.

Zero issues with the transmission.

239,860 miles

I never changed the transmission fluid.

I had (naively) stuck with the factory maintenance schedule and Audi dealer doing all the service until the pandemic. When I started to do my own maintenance I realized the fluid hadn't been changed, but after doing some research (various on line forums, ) decided to just live with my decision at that point (NO hard evidence to support my decision)

Again just a data point. I am NOT saying I would have intentionally neglected the fluid change, but by the time I realized it I just decided to live with it and leave it alone.

Thank you for the offer. I’ll be in contact. I have to order the fluids from fcpeuro.
