With my mom's Jeep and Toyota, dad's Mustang, and my recent rental car while I had an accident (before my allroad was totaled) my Ford Edge if you started the car you could step out and lock the car by pressing the door handle with keyless entry. This doesn't seem possible on my 2012 A6 Prestige. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to code this with VCDS/OBDeleven? I read something on Audiworld (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-mkii-discussion-211/locking-doors-while-car-running-2903213/page2/#post25020688)regarding the Q7 but didn't find this option when checking Module 46 on OBDeleven in my A6.

Anyone figure this out? It'd be a lot easier than taking the physical key out and locking/unlocking.

Thanks

Not possible to code, HOWEVER, you can leave the fob in the car, separate the physical key, close the door and lock it mechanically with it.

why not just lock it running with the physical key :)

Thanks all! While I'm aware of the physical key it can get a little annoying considering how often I need to move my car in front of my apartment and then run in and get stuff. Due to a lack of parking I am not always able to park directly in front of my apt. While I don't think I'll ever have my car stolen, I grew up in Philly until mid-June 2021 so I'm a pretty precautions person and always try to lock my car whenever running and the physical key can be a little cumbersome + makes me worry about wearing the lock cylinder out.

Then why not just have a remote start put in? I have one on my S8, works off the factory fob FTW :)

College tuition and future plans for flight school are going to be hard on the wallet. I'd rather put my money towards Stage 1, a new CarPlay box, and future savings for the debt I'm going to be getting myself into. Never really saw much practical use in a remote starter, these cars heat up quickly with auxiliary heater, and I'd still have to start the car up and move it in front of my apartment.

Always a good idea even when not running; property crime increasing everywhere. But why the need to keep the engine running? Super quick getaway?

Not a fan of starting the car, driving it for a minute, then turning it off just to turn it back on again. I'd rather let the engine idle than start, stop, start.

Interesting. Just a habit, or is there some harm to the engine you are trying to avoid? I understand old cars might experience increased wear if only driven short distances at a time. However, modern cars are even designed to "stop/start" at traffic lights to conserve fuel and as far as I know don't experience any significant increased wear. Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything no. I'm sure I wouldn't damage the engine by starting and stopping it.
