View Full Version : Master Cylinder problems

I finally got to drive my wife's 2001 A4 Q 2.8 A lot of fun, but her brakes leave a lot to be desired. I noticed that the brake peddle tended to slowly go down but stop before reaching the floor, with the engine running. With the engine shut off, the peddle will depress about 1 inch and go no further.
The wonderful dealer tech flushed my brake lines and declared the problem fixed. Needless to say, there was no change from the peddle's perspective.
Does this mean that I need a new MC, or could it just be a leaky vacuum line somewhere. I don't have any Audi manuals at home to refer to.

BTW, I changed the rotors and pads yerterday. Also no change in MC behaviour. The fronts were down to 1mm and fell apart when I took them out! The rear pads were as easy as the fronts to change.
