Original battery is finally showing signs of being on its way out (b8.5 s5). I was curious if I should go AGM or not? Also 850 CCA? Thanks in advance!

Lots of threads on the topic, just try to make sure there is a BEM code on the replacement battery. It will make your life much easier when you go to code it to the car with VCDS or whatever you use.

I can’t remember if mine came with AGM or not. I replaced mine like almost 3 years ago with a regular lead acid Everstart Maxx from Walmart. Never had an issue tbh.

Appreciate the responses! I was thinking just a diehard run of the mill battery myself and I do have OBDeleven so I’ll be able to code it correctly.

I put an optima yellow top in mine. I just did the “change one digit” trick in VCDS and the car accepted it just fine.

I just replaced the original battery on my 2014 with another OEM battery. Comes with the BEM code which makes life much easier.

I bought a replacement from Advance Auto for my B8 A4 a couple years ago. Had the same physical appearance as OEM and it was made in Germany, so I thought it is probably the same OEM. Worked out great.

There are only a few battery manufacturers in the world... many brands are owned by the same parent manufacturer.
