B8.5 S4 DSG replacement

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I have a 2013 S4 with some serious DSG issues. Slipping into third at 1/4 throttle, humming/whirring noise when decelerating/fully off throttle, and more. I live in CT and was quoted $9k-$10k from a shop that I'm friendly with. Don't have the money for that so not really an option. So now I'm faced with having to replace it myself(alongside friends who have done similar work, but none of us are certified mechanics). I would appreciate any advice regarding any tips, problems I might or will run into, videos, special tools required, procedures, and general advice for this situation.

That’s a very high quote, does that include a brand new transmission? The labor itself is 10 hrs, so perhaps you need to find another shop which will work with you to find a good used trans. I’m going to say that even if you pay for 10 hrs of labor, it’s a bargain compared to doing it yourself if you don’t have a lift. It’s very dicey to handle this “mommy-loving” transmission laying under the limited space under the car on the jacks. Probably much safe and less frustrating to pull the engine and trans together towards the front of you do decide to take this on yourself.

Well this is not an issue anymore after my friend was driving my car, hit black ice, and rolled the car 3+ times. Thank you both for your input.
