I would do the rear first. It痴 easier and you値l have a better understanding of what to do with the fronts. You値l also need something to bypass the EPB (Must need. For rear only). I used OBD11. I got the pro version. I知 not 100% if you値l need the pro version though. Might want to do more research on that.

Can you still do it with VCDS or just get an OBD11 diagnostic tool?

Vcds/obd are basically the same thing its just users choice

You can do the backs without but its many more steps. You would have to disconnect and remove the e-brake motors. VCDS/OBD11 makes it much easier though.

VCDS/OVD are certainly helpful tools and very needed if you will be doing your own service and oil changes. Can't reset the yearly service reminder without them unless you take it tot he dealer and probably pay an hour of labor for 5 minutes in the bay.
