Had a tire jump up and bite me the other day. Ripped off the driver side lower grille and left the radar sensor hanging. Dealership wants 3500 for the sensor plus bracket and alignment. Ive read that other people have replaced their radar without the expensive alignment and been fine. Thoughts?

Also, does anyone have access to the diagram with part numbers for the radar assembly? Need to make sure I have the correct grille and sensor bracket for my car. Specifically I have a 2018 A6 Prestige with ACC.

Thanks in advance.

personally, i'd file a claim with your insurance company... dont say you hit a tire in the road, tell them a truck in front of you blew a tire and sent part of it in the air and it hit your lower grille (that way it is classified as a comprehensive claim and not at fault) and pay your deductible and fixed the proper way

Yeah not sure why someone wouldn't go through insurance for this. Its not cheap to fix this.

I like the idea of saying it was something off of a truck in front of me so I am not at fault. That was my biggest worry. I found the grille and bracket I need, sensor seems to be fine, total cost $500-600. That is why I was contemplating trying to fix this myself.

Remember, the tire hit you; you did not hit the tire.
