View Full Version : Dynamic Sport seems to be "enough" for me.

So I drive a lot in Dynamic Sport mode. It seems very peppy to me. I am 0-speed limit in no time. It's fun to drive. On here, everyone seems to do a new CAI, a tune and exhaust mods right away. I get that it increases performance, but if I'm not tracking or whatever, just daily driving, am I REALLY missing out by not modding my car? I enjoy reading about all the stuff you all do to your cars, but I wonder if the money is really worth it for me. I've done a couple cosmetic things like caliper covers, spacers to fill out the wheel well a bit, and a few OBDeleven things, but nothing major.

People don’t really see big gains from a CAI and exhaust mods. Tunes are a different story though. I never pushed the car stock because I bought it just before a winter season and then tuned the car in March. I like to have more than what I need because that is who I am. Back in the day I drove big engine cars where you blip the throttle and get pushed back into the seat. When I went dual pulley, I got that feeling back. In sport with the TCU tune at half throttle, you get some pretty solid shifts and the engine stays where it performs very well. I have no exhaust mods and don’t intend to get any. I have a CAI to hear a little more whine and I did see some interesting numbers on an IE tuned 3.0T.
I will go to the track because as good as a dragy is, it still isn’t a legit timeslip. I’m going to go with a couple of other guys with some C63 Mercedes’ and the like.
Stock is fine. Dual pulley 93 tuned with TCU are significantly and noticeably faster.

A tune is worth every penny. Stock is definitely 'adequate'. But a tune gives you the best of both worlds -- stock like characteristics at part throttle / cruising around town with the added benefit of power on tap for passing and other 'emergency acceleration' maneuvers. :P

I could maybe see a Stage One Tune as that can be done without any other mods like pulleys or cooling or brakes or whatever. Obviously I'm not in a warrantee situation or anything so that's not a concern. So if I went to a Stage One tune, that is doable by a novice like me? I have an OBD Eleven and thats it.

Nobody to stop you from tuning from home if you want. IE or O34 I believe has a CREC tune. APR you have to go to a dealer. You will need a flashing cable with the more cheaper non APR tunes. You might be able to borrow a cable for the non APR flash to save some money.

I got my 034 ECU tune first, mainly to clean up the odd part-throttle, low-speed shifting dynamics. Was so impressed by the improvement to the trans shift schedule that I immediately ordered the Stage 1 tune. Went stg 1 so as not to change any mechanicals.
My street racing days were over about 20 yrs ago, and I've never been on a track. I drive conservatively 80-85% of the time, assertively up to 15% of the time. Nonetheless, this setup is damn good and worth every penny, since you can feel it even at part throttle. Makes everyday driving feel much more athletic and pleasurable.

I bought my s6 used with APR stage 1 ECU and TCU tune so I had nothing to compare it to. But I'm not one for leaving any car I own stock or stock-ish. I think I may have a problem lol. Now I'm APR stage 3 and still looking for ways to go faster. Like mentioned above, my street racing days are long gone but if the situation ever arises while in the streets of Mexico, who am I to back down from a good time? [drive]

Stage 1 tune will make you fall in love with the car all over again and think wow, it really should have came like this!
my vote for 3.0t Tunes is 034motorsports. opinions will vary, cant go wrong with IE either

I should have flashed my car the day that I bought it.

Definitely tune it, make sure you get one with a tcu tune option, i started with apr ecu tune only and it was lacking, then i got the 034 tcu tune and it was a different car... if i had to do it over i wouldve just got 034 for both tunes. i never did exhaust mods, just a cai from IE, but be careful if your like me and you get addicted to going fast in a luxury car you might find yourself hunting for an rs7 ;)

well to each their own, yes 99% of driving i feel can be handled in stock trim....when i jump on it sure will handle doing what i want BUT even though i don't track car i enjoy that extra power. just cause you don't track a car doesn't mean "it's enough"

“This software tune wasn’t worth it” said no 3.0T A6 owners, ever…

right lol
The factory power is quite competent. But even a Stage 1 tune takes it up at least 2-3 notches in capability. It turns a very nice car with decent power into a world class road machine. Get the TCU tune with the ECU tune, otherwise the sluggish factory shifts will become more annoying.
