Hi all,
I hit a pot hole on the weekend and now have a bulge on the side of the tire. Does anyone know if I can just replace the one tire or will the quattro system be affected if my other three tires have some wear on them and the new one doesn't?
I'm not sure how exact or what tolerance the quattro system has with respect to this issue.
Tire size is 265/35/20 in my situation.
Thoughts/feedback greatly appreciated!

By the book, you are supposed to replace both tires on the same axle. In reality, you'll be totally fine with tires that have uneven tread.

the indy shop that I take my car to is saying they want the tires within 5/32 of each other. so they want to measure the depth on my current tires to what a new tire will be to see if the difference isn't larger than that.

you can order the same tire from tire rack and have them trim it down to what ever tread depth you want to match the other tires
i was skeptical but i had this done recently and the trimmed tire was still hsut as smooth as other 3

Exactly how/what they should be doing to determine what needs to be done.
Had no idea tirerack offers trimming them down like f4m0u5 said, but that's awesome route you could take!

Quattro tolerates a difference within 4/32, IIRC, so verifying the tread depths and going from there is the right move. If they are relatively new, you can prob get away with a new tire. Your indy is doing the right job.
FWIW, i have gotten a shaved tire from Tire Rack to replace one before and it was an easy process

4/32 is what I remember reading as well.

That's the consistent number on AZ, for example in thread "Can you run different tires on front and rear on a Quattro?". An alternative approach is to keep circumference difference less than 3%.
