That ethanol eats anything, eh? Think that's the first time I've seen someone post that kind of failure.

Mine was seeping a little when I changed my pump as a maintenance item. I figured it was the seal but now I wonder if it was cracked.

Why do you say it was ethanol?

He said he was using E40; S4 does stock use E. A4 flex fuel uses a different pump, along with several other different components, to accommodate the more corrosive nature of E. But I don't know if that corrosion is a metal issue, plastic issue, or both. Not seen someone post something like that and the only out of norm in the post is the E. Just wild speculation; could have nothing to do with it.

Very interesting...
A buddy recently told me how b8.5 uses a completely different style pump. And when I was looking around ECS at pumps, I see they have one and specifically mention how it can accommodate E.
Do you guys ever use those bottles of ethanol conditioner that says it's good to clean out the fuel lines of E?

There was a recall for the Q7 a few years back because the flange on them all cracked and would eventually leak. Mine was replaced/repaired twice. Never saw a day of E40, its just a known failure point, if these have anything in common.

Upon closer inspection when I put the new pump in today, the plastic was very brittle on the lid of the original pump. The car is a 2012, with a build date of 7/11, maybe age? The plastic was very ductile rather than “plasticy” if that makes any sense.

This car doesn’t see much e40 by the way, runs 95% of the time on 91.
