While attempting to start my car today, my clutch gave way and bottomed out. It would stay there unless I pulled it forward and it would lightly spring back. So far it seems like the slave is the culprit, but how do I know for sure? What am I looking for? leaking from the slave? I haven't jacked the car up yet but I believe I might see the beginnings of a drip of sorts. I'm going to give it some time and check on it again later on to see if it is a continual leak.

That happened to me while driving and turned out to be the slave cylinder. It broke apart on the end with the rod inside the bell housing and leaked brake fluid in there. So best way to check would be to lift the car and pop the inspection cover and see if there's leaking fluid, broken pieces or slave cylinder, or the rod lying the housing.

You think it would be wise to replace the OEM slave out of the gate? Been reading up on the clutch line swap, seems like a no-brainer to do these both at once.

might as well, its a pretty easy replacement and basically resets the life expectancy.

At the beginning of the ownership of my car, my slave cylinder was leaking but was not failing. Some symptoms I was experiencing were inconsistent catch points in my petal. Sometimes it would be really mushy and it was never engaging the same way each time when starting from a stop. I was also loosing break fluid and the dash would chime letting me know.
