Just wanted to share...since my last oil change I had been going through a quart every 500 miles and was getting worried...

Poked around here and the other site for a bit and remembered that I did over fill the oil by not getting all of it out and the car behaved funny, stalled, and I quickly drained down to the proper level...

After that the car smoked really really bad on hard acceleration - I am running stage 2 single pulley...it was kind of embarrassing.

Not getting any error codes other than the dreaded p0420 - guessing my cats are pretty much shot at this point...

Anyways went in for the big service, Water pump, thermostat, media blast the valves, AND I had them do the PCV while the supercharger was off.

Well...1500 miles in and the oil level has only ticked down just a hair and not getting the awful smoke upon hard acceleration anymore...Not cheap but glad I got to the bottom of the really excessive oil consumption and burning.

Here's to another 100K !!!

It’s got to be a good feeling to have that done, thought the credit card bill this month might be a bit steep!!

Enjoy the ride and good luck on the next 100k.

Wow must have significantly overfilled if the car actually stalled as a result.... All that oil could have destroyed the cats from what I understand. Also I'd take care of the cats asap if you're throwing a code since they've been known to grenade the engine if they clog

There is a product called CATACLEAN that might be able to help clean the cats. $20 bottle rather than $1,000+ for each factory cat.

In my 20 years of experience once it throws a P0420 it's over, dead, gone. Not coming back.

eaxactly, this is a code that would indicate a blown cat or o2 or exhaust leak (i had a p0420 when i had. exhaust leak at the flange between the front and rear o2 sensors). p0420 is same code you get from taking cats out and putting test pipes, if the cat was clogged/ dirty would def be a different code then p0420 sonce it would be the opposite

Never used the stuff, only heard about it. I figure that for $20 it might be worth a shot.

FYI Im over 160k and I had all that work does, minus the valve blasting..and i still have bad oil consumption, due to leak and burnoff, i believe.

Yep,

The CEL shuts off every now and then but I have to imagine the cats are shot...as long as the CEL stays off long enough around my birthday to keep passing emissions LOL.

Does anyone have luck with the O2 spacers?

Not on this platform but my daughters old 08 Eclipse had thrown the P0420 code and I tried spacers. Got it tested and passed but then it later threw the P0420 code again so I had to change the cat anyways.

And I thought my car being 1qt low every 5k was bad...every 500? The car must have been running on more oil than gas! Glad to hear it's mostly sorted after the big service. I just crested 50k and thankfully don't have to worry about carbon build-up on CREC.

As others have said and depending on how many miles you've been stage 2 single pulley (and how hard you drive the car), I would HIGHLY recommend taking a look at your cats. Especially because you're throwing the code. Too many horror stories of 3.0Ts ending their lives due to exhaust restriction via a catalytic blockage.

Cheers to 110k more happy miles ahead.
