My 2017 A6 has the this, rectangular tips. Most exhaust options seem to have round/dual round tips. I'd rather not change out body parts/diffusers. Any options?

Those rectangular tips are fake. They come off and the muffler has the true exhaust tips. A lot of people eliminate the rear mufflers and weld on different exhaust tips. You can keep the stock diffuser but you do have remove the fake rectangular tips, and cut off the muffler in order to do anything.

Will round dual tips fit in that space? So I could have quad tips?

As speedooooo said the tips are attached to the bumper and can come off. The attachment apparatus is similar to how RS ovals are attached to those bumpers.

I did a S style gloss black diffuser, should be very similar to that width.

Dual round tips fit perfectly. Head over to AWE's website if you want some photos of a C7.5 with their quad tip exhaust setup.

Sounds great too! I have the luck to be located ~45mins away from their HQ and had my touring exhaust installed on site (although they no longer offer this service). Practically zero drone and great noise when on throttle. I got greedy and paired it with catless test pipes, which I still enjoy, but it's a little less desirable to daily drive now.

I bought a pair of these dual tips. Straight bolt on install, though getting those torx screws out is not fun, especially if hardened dirt has filled the torx cavities. The only thing I changed was that I painted the non chrome parts in high temp black paint, inside and out. Looks nice, doesn't burn your legs, and adds a very subtle increase in sound.
