Checklist for taking delivery of vehicle

Good afternoon all. I am waiting to take delivery of a 2018 S6. I am curious as to what I should check before signing off on the vehicle.
I really appreciate everyone's insight on the matter.

Bring a friend with VCDS. Full scan. Also check launch counter. Aside from that, the basic car stuff, visual inspection, road test, etc. You're looking at a car that is outside factory warranty that is loaded with electronics.

If someone cleared the codes with vancom then you would need to drive for a time necessary to run the codes through the process. I just did this with the Texas DMV and when I cleared the code I had to drive for over an hour to (ready) the codes for the inspection. So if you are the one doing the testing you need to drive it for a good run two or more hours and then run a vagcon test

Thank you! I have the VCDS. I will do as you suggest, full scan, launch counter....I will have to research how to check the launch counter.

Check tire tread life. They shouldn’t sell you a car with dangerous tires. Maybe also the break pad/rotor life.

A big thing of course is take it for a drive. Try the different drive modes out and mess with the infotainment stuff.

Make sure the AC/Heat work and check that the power options are good like the windows, seats, etc. you can check that the usb outlets work, no terrible smell out of the vents….heck it won’t hurt to see if they will balance the tires and get you an alignment before walking out the door. Won’t hurt to ask anyway.

Motor Mount output test with VCDS while you have it hooked up.

If they let you, take the wheels off and inspect brakes and control arm bushings.

If it has the optional Sport Diff, drive around corners under load and listen for noises.

Change between S/D/M while driving. Pay attention to behavior while shifting and coming to a complete stop; lurching is a sign of a bad mechatronic

motor mount test is also EXCELLENT ADVICE! All you need to know is run the left and right. Should sound the same. Most commonly it is the passenger side mount that fails, and you will hear a very obvious sound difference.

it should make noise, under testing, to indicate it is functioning, btw...
