Is this creeking sound from the steering column of a suspension component

I now feel like this may be the control arms because it’s making the noise over bumps when the wheel is not turning at all. Hmmmm…

This doesn’t sound like the typical creeking noise from the steering column issue many have had.

It also doesn’t sound like control arms, at least not from my experience. The noise you describe going over bumps definitely is more so the control arm issue.

To me, it sounds like something still within the steering column

Bushings boss. I just picked mine up from having the upper control arms and some lower bushings replaced and the noise I had similar to yours is completely gone. Plus the front end finally feels like a unit instead of a bunch of strangers.

Ok. So, here comes a few not so smart questions. Do only the lower control arms have bushings that can be replaced or do all of them? Or do most people just replace the whole control arm? I wish I knew how to tell for sure which one(s) is/are bad.

Anybody have any recommendations on how I can check them? I thought I read somewhere that they are fluid filled and will begin to leak when they go bad. Is that true?

Much more cost effective to replace the entire control arm. By the time you remove them (not the easiest job), press the old ones out, press the new in, you’re almost at the cost of new.

FCP, 034 and other sites sell complete kits for a decent price; 034 being the most expensive.

You should be able to see the bushings and visually see signs of “wear/worn/cracking”. Replacing mine in a matter of weeks (don’t have any noises in the steering column…)

Understood. Been looking at some. They aren’t cheap unless I get some knock off stuff from Rock Auto. Looking at FCP Euro a kit costs anywhere from $700-$900 for just the fronts. Appears that the back would cost about that much as well. Yikes!! I can do the work myself but the parts are gonna hurt on this one. I plan to replace them all when I’m in there. No need to only replace the ones that are bad and then end up having to go back in there again.

I replaced all of my upper control arms and end links this past week and the noises are still there. I was so upset when I drove it afterwards. Actually it sounds worse because I hear the same creaking sounds and I hear a new should when I hit small potholes.

It was a difficult and time consuming job. Took me 13 hours to do both sides. Unreal!!!
