spark plugs

hey, gang I have some black tar at the end of my mufflers tips c7 3.0T a6 my mechanic recommends for me to replace my spark plugs as he says you are wasting fuel not sure if true or false but had to ask here....Am i wasting fuel? If so what brand of plugs should I go with? My ride is currently on stage 1 tune but planning to go stage 2 or even stage 2+ car has 81k miles. Thanks.

The tuner company should have a plug recommendation. The black exhaust tips seem normal though on these engines. I have always figured it to be oil though. Never really investigated though other than I know mine is like most 3.0 engines and consumes some oil

not sure i bought the car wiht 59k miles and have not done any spark plugs replacement. As far as my tuner goes i am the one tuning the car using flash cable and 034 tune software stage 1.

If you’re tuning the car and don’t know the condition of the plugs, putting in a new set is a good idea. You can find decent pricing or lifetime replacement deals and swap plugs once every 25-30k miles and the car won’t likely pull timing due to plugs. Fuel, injectors, coils, etc… might become and issue down the road..

For what it’s worth, my stage 2 A6 ran great. I swapped plugs at about 30k miles and it’s approaching 50k. Still runs great.
Didn’t touch my wife’s Q7 until 40k miles (right before I had it tuned) and I didn’t notice any change whatsoever. But, with a tune, I felt new plugs, air filter and SC belt were low cost in terms of cash and my time to get the most out of the tune..

I wouldn’t do coils proactively, nor injectors.

Coil pack is a good move if they have a lot of milleage or you go DP. For me its only maintenance. For injectors i suggest to buy injectors cleaner like the dealer sell or like liqui-molly, always good to do, i must if you run E regulary.

034 for all purposes is the tuner then even if you are doing the plug and play. Check on their website for what plug and gap they recommend for their software. Per f4m0u5 they recommend OEM plugs with a 0.026 to 0.28 gap but you might still want to verify.

In another AZ thread some folk suggest shifting to a one-level colder plug (of whatever brand) if increasing power to Stage 3.

honestly if your tuning the car pull a plug and look it's not hard, looking at a plug will tell you a lot specially if your tuning it. i bought my car with 48k and the person who owned it prior did the 50k service at 38k and now i'm at 70k so i'll probably wait till 80k to do mine
