View Full Version : C7.5 A6 3.0t - 2 to 3 Shift Power Loss

Problem: Sometimes when the car shifts from 2 to 3 under WOT, it will lose nearly all power. The drop in power is so severe it feels like you took your foot off the gas.

In this example, I floored it when the light turned green. 1 to 2 shift was quick and fine, but when the car shifted from 2 to 3 it lost nearly all power.

Drive mode: Dynamic
Transmission: S
ESC: Sport

I originally had the APR stage 1 ECU tune and no issues but I wanted a TCU tune so I switched to 034 Stage 1 ECU tune and TCU tune since APR doesn't have a TCU tune for my car. The 2 to 3 shift issue started once I got the 034 TCU tune. It is very intermittent. Sometimes it will happen a few times in a row, other time you cannot get it to happen for 10-15 minutes.

Any ideas?

TIMELINE
9.20.22 - 034 Stage 1 ECU and TCU tunes installed. Problems start.

9.27.22 - Issue demonstrated for shop and 034 is sent an email asking for direction/support.

10.04.22 - Shop lets me know they received a response from 034 and we set an appointment to data log.

10.07.22 - Shop attempts data log per 034 directions but unable to connect/data log. Email sent to 034 asking for direction.

10.14.22 - The shop had not heard back from 034 yet so they ran a general set of logs. I also found one post here on AZ where someone was having the same issue and IE concluded the other person's car was loosing boost request into 3rd gear resulting in the loss in power. All the info and logs were sent to 034.

10.18.22 - 034 has not built ECU definitions for SIMOS 16 ECUs within the back end of the logger so they asked the shop to run logs with VCDS. At this point I'm not wanting to wait weeks or months for a resolution so I had the 034 tune removed from the car and a refund request issued. I then had IE's ECU & TCU tune installed. After about an hour of romping on it i've had zero issues and it feels great.

RESOLUTION: I went with a different ECU & TCU tune.

Considering it happened as soon as you got the TCU tune, why not open a ticket with 034? In the meantime, maybe flash back to stock and see if it still happens?

The shop that tuned the car has been 10/10 awesome. They opened a ticket with 034 and they will let me know when they hear back. It’s a major shame 034 doesn’t do phone support anymore. I’m pretty sure ALL of their competitors do…

In the meantime I can manually shift @ 6800-7000 rpm without issue.

The shop also thinks 034 will want to run logs so we would need the TCU tune still on the car.

We heard back from 034 Motorsports and I made an appointment at the shop to run logs per 034's instructions. Unfortunately there was an error with the logging program preventing us from running any logs. 034 was unreachable since they don't have any phone support so we they sent 034 an email and now we will wait to hear back. (Side note: No phone support is absurd)

Next step is to wait to hear from 034 on how to proceed then go from there.

I have the 034 TCU with APR ECU and I have no issues of power loss. I have other issues but nothing related to the transmission tune lol

You have a C7 with the SIMOS 8 ECU which is easier to tune and in a lot more cars so i'd imagine it is far more developed. Mine is a C7.5 with the CREC motor, direct and port injection plus the SIMOS 16 ECU. Add all that up and tuning seems to be more of a challenge.

What issues have you had? Have you run into any issues running different brand ECU & TCU tunes?

You are correct! I completely ignored the fact that you are CREC. I dont see why that would affect the TCU tune, but who knows. I have only even APR ECU and 034 TCU for now, but my plan is to switch to 034 ECU as well.

My issues have been extensive. I dont think most of them have been tune related, but everyone outside the Audi community keeps telling me to get my car pro tuned and that my tune is destroying my car.

Most of my issues were caused by cats clogging. They are all documented on this forum in one place or another.

However, I haven't really had much if any issue with the performance or drivability of my current setup, I actually like how it performs quite well. My issues are all maintenance and longevity related.

Interesting feedback. That's really lame that they haven't built out their logging tool to support the SIMOS 16 when they sell the tune for that ECU. I also have a CREC and an running an APR tune with a TCU tune from Berk and had been considering 034 when I upgrade to stage 2. It sounds like their tuning may not be fully baked for this platform. With APR/Berk I haven't experienced any power loss issues.

So what is it that you'd expect to gain from switching from Berk's "tune" to 034? I'm figuring that there is an increase in performance with a Berk tune either there will be nothing to very little to be had from another tune. Also can you not call on Berk and have him tweak the tune as per your driving needs if you want it more tailored?

I was looking to change my ECU tune and thought that it made sense to have a TCU tune matched up by the same company.

Ok. I wasn’t aware you were going to try 034. I have a Stage 2 DP APR tune and won’t be changing because there doesn’t seem to be much of any difference on catted 93 DP tunes on a CREC unless I missed something.

Haven’t been to the track yet. It’s been raining on and off the last week and I want to go just before the track closes. Cooler weather will be available (40-45 degrees. Elevation is 660ft and usually there is no headwind. Just bought a helmet and jacket, so I hope the weather cooperates.
