2017 RS7 Performance vs. 2018 RS5?

Hey everyone I’m having a bit of dilemma and thought I could use your opinions. I have the option of buying a 2017 RS7 Performance with 89k kms on it (has extended factory warranty on it) or a 2018 RS5.

I originally wanted to buy the RS5 because I thought the RS7 would fee like driving a boat but I test drove the RS7 today and it felt very nimble and steered amazing! Knowing what you guys know, Which one would you go for and why??

2017 RS7 Performance was the top of the line, with all the bells and whistles. Carbon brakes, CF parts everywhere, DRC, 605HP stock, etc. But, I also wanted the bigger car. I think it looks better as well.

You don't mention mileage on the RS5. Another consideration may be that RS7 will likely have higher maintenance costs, especially if it has ceramic brakes. Do both have good and equivalent service records?

I went in to Audi dealer to build an RS5SB. Drove out in my RS7.

They're not really fair to compare as others have mentioned, very different cars. RS5 exhaust also sounds like a wet duck fart, RS7 sounds like the gates of hell have opened. RS5 will have much better tech. I wouldn't let maintenance costs deter you on the RS7; CCB last almost forever (make sure they're in good shape obviously). A pair of front rotors on the RS5 is $2400 through dealer, not the cheapest to maintain either.

The mileage of the RS5 is basically half, its 40k kms. Also everyone mentioning higher maintenance costs - they are both certified pre-owns from Audi and I would make sure everything such as the rotors ans CCBs are in good condition and would get about 4 years/160k kms extended warranty on the RS7 just to be safe.

Another thing is the RS7 does not have the bang and olufsen sound system and the interior is silver with grey honeycomb stitch which some people think is a grandpa interior style but I don’t mind it. So with all that being considered do you still recommend the RS7?

Yeah in my honest opinion I think the 2017 RS7 looks super aggressive and better than the RS5. I just haven’t owned a V8 and am also kind of worried the fuel consumption might be insane. Obviously during my test drive I drove the car hard and couldn't stop smiling but generally in the city I would drive it in comfort mode like 85% of the time. To get an idea of the fuel consumption im used to, these are the cars I owned before:

2019 Mercedes C43 AMG - (had a lot if tech which I never really paid attention to)
2013 Audi S4 (my fave car so far!)

The MPG is not bad at all for the power that it makes but it definitely wont be as efficient as those 2 cars youve listed. They are much lighter and much less displacement

The rs7 is great. Love mine. You mention that they have a extended warranty. Remember that doesn’t cover west items like brakes. The CCB brakes are usually good for like 100k miles. So you should be good. But they are very expensive to replace. Like $10,000 from Audi. If you can work o. It yourself you can get it a little cheaper. There are some conversions out here as well to goto steel if needed for a lot less, but still not cheap ($3,000).

The rs7 is awesome overall. Super fast. Luxurious, roomy (I can put my bike in the back without taking the wheels off). I mean you can fit 4 adults comfortably to go out to dinner or whatever. Not going to do any of that in an rs5. It even gets good gas mileage on the highway. Cruise set at like 77-79mph gets me around 27-28 mpg. So pretty happy with that. Now it’s like 12 in town when I’m on the throttle hard. But hey, that’s what it’s for

I get around 13MPG in the city and 21MPG on the highway. I have ds1 and run ~e25. It’s never going to be sip gas. But it goes 0-60 under 3 seconds and 60-130 in about 8.
