Hey guys,

I did an oil change on my 2018 A6 with Stage 2 single pulley tune. The car has less than 48 K miles and appears to check out mechanically BUT FOR lead in my oil. Where on earth could that be coming from. I don't use octane booster, and I haven't put anything in my fuel or oil.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

By way of comparison, I changed the oil in my Wife's Stage 1 2017 Q7 that same week. We run Motul 5W40 in her car, and with a longer interval, the oil looks better. I've ordered more Motul, plan to drain the Mobil 1 in my car and run Motul going forward. I'll test it (maybe at a shorter interval) to see if anything changes.281684

Just a guess...
Maybe bad fuel station or they used a lead based octane booster in their tanks. (a no no of course, but still...maybe.)

Man, I hope it’s that simple. The thought of a motor starting to go south at less than 50k miles would make me sick!!

Doing another oil change next week to - hopefully - get any remaining lead out of oil. Switching to Motul, which is performing well in my wife’s stage 1 Q7, and will probably test that oil in a couple months.

Lead is an inexpensive octane booster. Also, might just be a lab error. Good idea to send another sample.
