Alright, I need help with this one. While driving my 2017 S6 I got a check engine light, an EPC light and rpm limited to 4,000. Upon scanning with OBDEleven I got P0016 and P0017. No loss in power or strange behavior. Was going in for oil change in two days anyway so continued driving with no issues. Dropped off at indy shop and they scanned and got same codes. Per the shop they verified codes and came back with engine running after clear. “Appears bank 1 (P/S) is out of phase. No chain rattle or tensioner rattle heard at this time.” Swapped bank 1 camshaft postion sensor and found “no change in faults. Tried to run basic setting for cam adjustment but correlation fault returns as soon as engine running.” At this point the shop has run out of ideas and suggesting an engine out. Is this the next step? Again a 41K mile car that has no driveability issues other that CEL and EPC light. No tune or mods on stock car and engine. No recent work done.
OBDEleven codes
P001600
Malfunction frequency counter 1
Unlearning count 265
Engine speed 854 rpm
Normed load value 6.3%
Vehicle speed 8km/h
Collant temp 100c
Voltage terminal 30 13.805 V
P001700
Malfunction frequency counter 1
Unlearning count 265
Engine speed 821 rpm
Normed load value 7.8%
Vehicle speed 7km/h
Collant temp 101c
Voltage terminal 30 13.735 V
Is there anything I should be looking for? Have done multiple Google and forum searches to no avail. Timing issues don’t seem to be a problem that I can find on 4.0tt. Anyone else experienced anything similar?
