Anyone have thoughts on the extended factory warranty? $4700 to make it 8 years 80,000 miles doesn’t sound bad. Am I missing something?

If you are talking about the extended warranty that you can purchase when you buy the car then I believe that the price is negotiable.

Having said that, I don’t have any experience with that specific extended warranty, but have had many different ones over the years. The important thing is to look at the warranty documents (not just what the salesperson tells you) and see exactly what is covered. Warranties can be “exclusive” or “inclusive”.

New car warranties are typically exclusive meaning “we cover everything except this items specifically listed” such as wear and tear items. Inclusive warranties are what many extended warranties are. This type only covers items specifically listed in the warranty documents. Do not assume something is covered under an inclusive warranty unless you see it explicitly stated. This items listed in inclusive warranties are often literally interpreted as well. For example if it says “radiator and water pump” and your cooling expansion tank cracks, it would not be covered even though it is attached to the radiator.

I was quoted 8/120k for that price with a $100 deductible. I think several people on here, myself included, got 10/120k for around $5k.

Audi warranty isn’t as complete or beneficial as Fidelity Platinum warranty.

If you cancel the Audi warranty you only get refunded the difference of what repair costs were covered through your claims and remaining value of your warranty minus time/mileage expired.

Whereas with Fidelity Platinum you don’t get penalized for costs of warranty claims should you cancel the warranty. Only deduction is calculated based on time/mileage expired against the remainder.

Also every OEM dealer accepts FP warranty claims. It’s great service business for them. Indy mechanics however are less inclined to accept aftermarket warranties since I’m told it’s more paperwork for them to get paid by any aftermarket warranty provider.

ie. Many cars ago I had a M6GC with FP warranty and got nearly $10k of repairs completed at BMW dealer across 3-4 claims and ended up canceling the warranty when I sold the car. The net cost after my refund was like $260 from a warranty I originally paid around $3k for. Only had the car for like 6mo or so.

Recently just purchased FP warranty for my ‘21 RS6 - 8yr/120k for $3900 about 15mo after my original Audi warranty began that was added at the 9800 mileage mark that’ll carry me to 129800 miles or exactly 8yrs from FP warranty coverage start, and expires at whichever comes first - contract expiration or mileage limit of warranty.

FYI- FP warranty is cheaper when purchased with car under 10k miles, hence why I added it barely before I hit 10k miles. After 10k miles the costs jump rather significantly every like 5-10k interval.

Audi extended warranty begins the time/mileage clock at original factory warranty beginning so it’s not a true full period of coverage as you think. It overlaps the original factory warranty period.

I found this on the website. Seems like it doesn’t cover a lot of important things that would just be a hassle to fix. Interested in hearing what people think of these exclusions.

Those are essentially all consumables that no warranty will cover.

I’ve used FP 5-6x and it’s always paid against all my warranty claims with zero issues. In fact, one of my warranty claims was replacing one of the M6GC’s OLED headlights which was nearly $3k I believe.

I also had FP on my ‘11 R8 v10 gated manual, and it replaced all 4 air struts which was nearly $8k service repair at Audi dealer. I paid like $4700 for the warranty and canceled it once I sold the r8 and my net costs after the refund was like $1200 against that strut replacement plus another passenger lock claim for like $800. So essentially $9k worth of repairs cost me $1200. Same story for a Range Rover Sport I had and countless others.

I can speak with confidence it’s paid for itself and then some every single time I had it.

Do what you think is best for you.

I also ended up going with Fidelity platinum. It didn’t hurt that it was cheaper than the Audi plans. Contact Troy at http://www.fd-warranty.com/ if interested.

Regardless, both Audi and Fidelity offer separate tire/wheel/brake packages, so the exclusions above to the main warranty are not unique to Fidelity.

Troy Dietrech, who works at a dealer for Audi, VW, Ford, and Toyota, obtains the policies from Fidelity. Think of him as an insurance agent. He can provide both Audi and Fidelity policies.

I wound up going with Term this week for my RS6, it was 72 months so splits the difference nicely between the standard 4 yr/50K and extended 10 yr/100K, while covering any consumble outside the factory warranty and 1 change of the pads and rotors. I usually skip this, but as this is hte first car i paln on having for a long while it made sense, gives me some added piece of mind

That sounds like Term Protection Plus, which essentially adds platinum level protection to the term protection. I opted for regular term protection (not “plus”) bc I was getting the separate platinum warranty.

I could be wrong, but I believe this is just one term care option now that includes one brake swap. So many different options though, so I could be confusing this with something else.

It seems that what you are offered varies by dealer. My dealer only mentioned one option. Last month, Troy offered me four term protection options, each with multiple year options:

1. Term protection for 4/5/6 years
2. Term protection plus for 4/5/6 years
3. Term protection with rotors for 4/5/6 years
4. Term protection plus with rotors for 4/5/6 years

I chose #3 for 6 years.

I bought my 21 RS6 back in December with 15k miles. It was advertised as a CPO from the Audi dealer but they said they could not certify it because of an open recall with the fuel sender. so they offered me an extended warranty at an additional cost of course. I think they took care of me with a 'lifetime' warranty from Gold Standard for $4700. Lifetime means 20 years or 500,000 miles, and its transferrable as well as some defined pro-rated refund for cancelling. one caveat is that once a part is replaced, it can no longer be covered again. I don't plan on keeping the car anywhere close to 20 years or 500k miles! But I hope it offers the next owner a lot of peace of mind.
i have read it several times including after reading this thread. It has a $100 deductible but covers almost everything, except wear and tear items. It covers engine & turbos, tranny, drivetrain, cooling system, HVAC, suspension, and then the tech stuff like cameras, GPS, and all the sensors. It even offers money to cover maintenance items such as $30 for wipers, alignments, & tire rotation...but i am sure it takes a lot of effort for just $30. but up to $120 for oil changes. another caveat is you must follow the maintenance schedule from Audi and I'm sure you don't want to miss an oil change by even a day.
In reality, a 10 year/120k warranty would be enough but again, I am hoping it will help me resell the car...and it seems like I may have only paid a few hundred more than others on this post

I think it’s negotiable at any point. That’s my experience at least with Porsche.

I had the dreaded alternator failure last Friday. I was lucky that my local service center happened to have the part in stock (it generally has to be ordered and takes 2-3 weeks to arrive).

For me it was covered under warranty, but my service rep showed me the internal invoice- the part is around $4k and labor alone was about $1600. Bottom line was almost $6k.

Yes it is. Audi has extended this part and failure for 7 years/100K miles I believe.
