Hey guys,

I made the same post on the Q7 specific discussion as well, but I mostly post here and don't typically look at the Q7 section unless i have a dilemma. So, i thought some of you might appreciate this information as well if your at all like me.

I just did the rear pads and rotors on my wife's 2017 Q7, and wanted to leave a few notes for anyone taking on this task in the near term.

First, tools used /supplies are:

Breaker-bar
17" deep socket with coating to not scratch wheels
Torque wrench
1/2 socket wrench
3/8 socket wrench
13" socket for slides
18" socket for caliper carrier
C-Clamp
Flat head screw driver
Break Clean
Anit Seize
Plasti-Lube (break lube/grease)
VCDS
Batter charger
Shop/paper towels
Cardboard
Coffee

Next, since you have to deal with the rear parking break, you have to use VCDS. I looked under Block 53 and VCDS would not communicate. So, I pulled the Audi service manual for my wife's Q rather than using memory from my A6.

It turns out, to manage parking brake issue for this car, you do into the ABS function in VCDS and enter lining change mode. Exit when complete. I wasted a half hour on this piece as I had truly expected (for no good reason) this would be exactly like my 2018 A6. I was wrong..

Otherwise, this job is extremely simple. All in , maybe $250 in parts, grease, etc.. 3 hours labor for me, taking time. I could bang it out in 2 hours now, having never done this on this particular car.

I know for my A7 there is a toggle in the brakes with VCDS to release the e-brake with the click of a mouse. Not there for the Q7?

And you have item 17 listed wrong. It should read BEER. [:D]
