I only recently noticed that the lower right grill (passenger side) is functional and is ducted to a radiator of some type. The driver's side lower grill is just closed off. Is this functional grill directed to a tranny or oil cooler? What is it actually cooling?

The left one is to a duct to the brakes. The right one is to the "additional coolant radiators".
The transmission fluid cooler appears to be a fluid to coolant heat exchanger like the oil cooler. Uses this part, https://www.ebay.com/p/896383798, and a second similarly style unit.

Okay, thank you. I will have to take another look at the driver side grill as mine appears to be walled off, going nowhere. If it is going to the brakes, it certainly is not obvious like the other side. I have a B9.5, but not sure if that matters.

Yeah, B9.0 and B9.5 grills are different; your My Garage lists your MY21 RS5, so I knew to look at B9.5.
Your grills should look like these, 8W0 807 681 AS left and 8W0 807 682 AS right (left and right of the car, pic as if you were looking back at the car)

The outer slits go to air guides 8W6 121 763 E left and 8W6 121 763 E right. Not sure what these guide air to.
The inner openings go to air guide 8W0 121 673 D left, to the brakes presumably given the part description on parts.audiusa.com. And to air guide 8W0 121 674 D right, to the additional coolant radiators that are down right of the main radiator and condenser (and apparently there's yet another additional coolant radiator along the bottom of the main radiator).
It's possible these two small air guides associated with the main radiator air guides catalog page are tied to the outer slit air guides, for wherever they route to. 8W0 121 283 CK left and 8W0 121 284 CK right.
But finding my workshop manual actually has the RS stuff, it looks like the the outer slit air guides 681/682 are not actually right at the grill, but further back near the wheels. So I'm pretty sure those are the brake air guides. The air guide 763 does actually look like just a wall that pushes any air coming in the inner opening over to join the air from the outer slit towards the left brake. Or maybe the wall is actually a seal to just block air. It's attached to the bumper cover by three screws on the backside. Appears this was the same general concept in the B9.0, though different shaped components due to the different shaped bumper cover and grills.

A lot of good info there, thanks. Yes, I checked again, and the passenger side is very clearly ducted directly to a radiator. However, the driver's side does appear to be just blocked off. If it is going somewhere, I cannot see it.
Totally different subject. In your picture each of your grill pieces have a vertical trim piece that is silver. Did your car come with those pieces silver, or were they purchased separately?
