View Full Version : Chip then exhaust? or other way around?

I'm finally gonna take the plunge and get a GIAC chip and exhaust.
Now I just need to determine the order.
Here's my logic:
Getting the chip first will mean more power sooner. Which is always good.
However, if I get the exhaust after the chip, won't I need to retune the chip to utilize the exhaust?
I'm sure it won't make huge differences, but I want every horsey and lb as possible.

So should I be a little patient with the power and get the exhaust first?

Of course there is the option to max out my cards and do it all at once.

But Ijust got around to paying off most of my debt and am trying to be more fiscally responsible, now that I'm older.

All thoughts and comments are welcome.

I just chipped mine this week, same car as yours. You'll notice a BIG difference in performance, I was I did this years ago. I'm intalling a Borla exhaust next year.

If you have a tiptronic (slushbox) you might want to get the GIAC tip chip - $350 also.

what do you mean by "retune"

Some of the chip tunners like Dahlback and others fine tune everyone of their chips to the supporting mods.

So basically with everything that you add the chip gets tweaked a little bit to get more performace out of the supporting mod like intercooler, high flow car or exhaust.

I would also suggest getting the exhaust first so you start off with just a little gain and sound and then go with the chip which will make a big difference. Save desert for last.

dude chip and dv first. this car needs all the extra power it can get.

chip, anything you do after will just add power, the chip is the largest gain your going to see.

No need to retune. The ECU is able to learn. Chip will be the biggest bang for the buck. I would start there.
