well my second gear grinds everytime i shift at high rpm's i think i have been to hard on it the last few years so what do you folks suggest? rebuild, buy a rebuilt one, upgrade to a 2.8? im thinking the 2.8 sounds best. my car is a 97 1.8tqm. what years are available to be swaped in?
also any good placing to source one or more importantly not to source one from?

I have a spare 1.8 trans, just not sure if it will work in the 97 since some people say that the 97 has a different trans. My trans is still in great shape, just needs a new pivot linkage bolt which you could take out of your trans.

The 97 trans uses the CF drive shaft, I have seen peolpe post up that when they tried changing the trans there was fitment issues.

your right, i forgot about the CF driveshaft, but if your already changing the tranny, its not much out of the way to change a driveshaft...

so the only tranny that will fit will be from a 1997 2.8 or 1.8t quattro? does anyone know the tranny ID codes that will fit?
