Do your exhaust flaps make a ridiculous amount of noise? I can here my open and close at lights, and they make a loud metallic sound!

Yes, I am putting a Milltek Exhaust on soon and do want to keep valves so I plan on having a valve controller put on so can keep them open when I want

The good news is that the factory exhaust has enough rattles and squeaks that an aftermarket exhaust certainly can't be worse. There is actually a TSB related to exhaust rattles/squeaks and I'm hoping my dealer won't give me too much hassle getting it done: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/926115-PSA-Exhaust-Rattle. If that doesn't completely fix it, a CETE exhaust controller is next on the list try before resorting to an aftermarket exhaust.

The longer I drive this car the more I desire a less noisy exhaust system.

And I’m not talking about the sound the engine makes ;)

Mine also has an irritating amount of interior rattles when driving over certain road surfaces. It's an amazing car but it definitely has an unusual number of quirky noises.

I disconnected the soundkator within the first week of ownership. makes the car sound much more tame, but a way better experience.

My 2021 makes the metallic noise from the exhaust valve motors and I can't stand it. I already took it to my dealership and they won't replace them since the exhaust already has the updated valve motors. Is my only option to purchase an aftermarket valved exhaust?

Has anyone replaced just the actuator ? I'm considering just purchasing this and having my shop do the work.

It doesn't help, problem is not actuator/motor but clearence on the flap's spindle and/or bearings.

I can't stand it. My 2019 didn't down this but my 2022 does. Annoying.

Yes, although, check the revision number. There is A, B, C, D and not all of them are for the RS5.

I have a 2019 RS5 and it was working fine for the first 50K miles, then the same sound started to happen around 5 seconds after starting the car. That muffler was replaced under warranty in November 2020 and it had the most recent revision (D). I just replaced that actuator and the sound went away. I cut the old one open with a dremel tool, inspected all of the gears and found one with a tooth that looked broken (the top half of the tooth is missing). I'm not sure if that would cause the problem or not, but it was the only thing that did not seem right. It's not easy to see unless you expand the photo. There is a red circle around the broken tooth:

thanks, i actually purchased the most recent revision (d) but haven't installed them yet. i have the cete valve controller set to open so it doesn't bother me anymore.

My RS3 started making this noise after 3 years. I sprayed some WD40 Specialist Dry Lube on the outside and the noise went away. This lubricant is dirt and dust resistant. From a bunch of other forums (not necessarily just Audi) I read that wet lubricants can cause worse issues.

My shop did this as well, before replacing the actuator. It did not solve the problem on my 2019 RS5 Sportback.

I do wonder what the source of the problem was, given that the problem did not appear for over 4 years and 50K miles. I did find a broken gear tooth inside the old actuator, but it is not clear if that was the cause or result of a problem. Perhaps the flap mechanism was frozen in the cold Midwest winter and the actuator spun without being able to move the flap, resulting in a broken tooth. Or, perhaps the tooth broke on its own and caused the problem. Or, perhaps there is something inside the flap assembly that is problematic. Beats me.

Whatever the cause, replacing the actuator solved the issue on my car when lubrication did not. But, my advice to anyone else is to try lubrication first, and only replace the actuator if that does not solve the problem.

The noise on my 2021 was obnoxious. Probably not the solution you are looking for but if you disconnect the motors and get these https://burgertuning.com/products/vag-exhaust-flapper-bypass-plugs you will not get any codes.

For what it's worth, my 19 Mustang GT with the active valve exhaust made the same noise my S5 and now RS5 makes when it opens and closes. The only difference is on the Mustang, the valves only move when you switch the mode, not depending on throttle or transmission setting. If you had it in Sport+ or Track mode, the valves stayed open until you turned the car off. I wish my RS5 did this. I don't so much mind the sound, so much as I mind how often the valves actuate.

How’s the WD40 Specialist Dry Lube holding up?
